I'm not sure if this is considered a good deal or not but you can get this monitor at Staples for $318.90 if you do the following:

Staples current price is $477.99. Onvia is currently selling it for $408.90. Call Staples and have them PM with Onvia then use one of the $40 off $200 codes to bring your price down to $368.90. There is also a $50 rebate to bring your price down to $318.90.

My final cost with tax (in CA) came to $346.57.

that's a pretty good deal.
Do you have a link to the $50 MIR? I don't see anything on the Staples or Viewsonic site.

Gateway Accessary Store has it for $429.95. Use $40 off $400 coupon from Techbargains. Free shipping until 3/15. Less $50 rebate. Final price $339.95 without the Staples pricematch hassle.

This is a GREAT monitor! I got one from Staples a while back using a PM to Onvia.com AND stacked 4 coupons. And then there was a $20 rebate on top of that. I think the final price was somewhere between $250-300. I run DualHead with this monitor and a Viewsonic PS790. The PS790 saves much more room, but trust me, the PerfectFlat screen is awesome on the PF790! I'm almost willing to get another one just so I'll have matching DualHead. Good Deal!

which monitor do you guys think is better the Viewsonic PF790 or the KDS AV195TF?

I hear people say bad things about the fact that the dot pitch is .27 at the edges versus .25 at the center. And there are others that say that when they use really high resolutions the image quality goes down. But I havent heard that much about the KDS monitor so I'm wondering what everyone else's opinions are.

They are very similar. Both use the same Trinitron technology and have similar specs. The main difference is in the electronics they place in the monitor. They are pretty even IMO and it depends a bit on whteher you get a "good" example of either one.

For myself, I settled on the KDS AV-195TF. When I was monitor purchasing, I had a chance to see several PF790s - and each one didn't seem as clear (text-wise) as the KDS. I based my opinion only on PCs that were connected to only one monitor. I didn't base it on viewing "walls 'o monitors" at Best Buy and CompUSA. However, I think one really needs to do their own proper leg-work to make a proper conclusion between the two.

I called Staples to PM but the CSR said he'd have to charge shipping ($66 for my zip) even though Onvia's 3-7 day shipping rate is free.

I'm going to try Gateway.

The Viewsonic does NOT use a Trinitron CRT, it uses a DiamondTron. They are similar but there are some differences. The "stripe pitch" is .24/.25mm for a Trinitron, .25/.27mm for the DiamondTron (first number is pitch in the center of screen, second number is pitch in the corners).
