LXI as you know I have been serching for a 19 inch monitor and been reading alot of reviews and 9 out of 10 of them put the Hitachi 771 ergoflat above that samsung 900 nf and its the same price why no one metions this one I am picking between the 771 the veiwsonic pf790 or that samsung 900 nf and im willing to bet the 771 looks the best

I want to get the p818.. but it's a little spendy...... When I see those monitors lined up in any store... they are much clearer and crisper.... Just something I noticed I guess......

I think it would be talked about more if more ppl could afford them.......

Im NOT basing my opinion on just the P775, I have seen their P81x series and was not impressed at all. I dont know how reliable they are or how good of a spec they carry, but they certainly didnt look good enough for me. The only models I will bother with ViewSonic is the PF series based on DiamondTron NF, we've got better options for shadow masks.

About Maxtor, guess whats? I was proudly crowned the Maxtor prophet on another forum I participate. Simply due to my great experience with Maxtor hard drives. 6 in a row and they're still serving me well. Monitors, it's a totally different case. You did make a good illustration of the point. But monitors, unlike hdds, dont fail as often, but they do get worn out such as becoming fuzzy and unclear.

<<I feel that Viewsonic compares well against Samsung in many areas. The value-targeted E771/E773, for instance, stand up well (and better IMO) against the similarly priced Samsung 750s/750b.>>

Well, if want to beat Samsung in value-targeted, you're gonna have to beat their 735/755DF and 700IFT, NOT the 750s/750b. Heck, even the 750p can be found for a lower price than the ViewSonic Es. And last time I check, the DF and IFT have 0.24mm diagonal dot pitch, quite a mark unreachable for anybody now.

<<The Samsung 700NF/900NF might be a little cheaper than the comparable Viewsonic PF775/PF790, but again I feel Viewsonic's quality is comparable, not necessarily superior. Personally, Viewsonic, Samsung, and Sony are all at the top of my list (all have low-budget products I wouldn't touch however). And Iiyama, these are impossible to find in my area. Perhaps only online?>>

A little cheaper? Maybe not. The 900NF is better than PF795 in specs, while cost around $90 lower. Priced exactly the same as the PF790 but having superior specs over it. It's not like ViewSonics are THAT bad, but they usually fall short when I compare them to my top candidates(Samsung, KDS, Hitachi, Sony...).

You're comparing an apple to an orange. The 771 ErgoFlat is a shadow mask monitor, the 900NF/PF790 are both Aperture Grille monitors. They look drastically different and your eyes will tend to like one or the other. IMO, and many others' opinion, aperture grille looks better, but I know there are people who hates them. I've already described to you the differences in the thread you started. Get a chance to see them in real life, thats the only way to determine whether you like one or the other.

The CM771 is surely a good monitor, ErgoFlat looks promising but Im not sure how that compares to Samsung's Dynaflat. The resos/refresh rate/video bandwidth is only mediocre at best, 900NF's specs are much better. You can drop PF790 off that list, because 900NF has everything it has, with better specs and same price tag.

Pauli, wow... you're the only one who got my name... 😀 I'm actually in a maxima club also. Email me & I'll get you the url for the club.

As for the monitor, I don't like getting subpar hardware, but I'm leaning toward it because of the price... 19" monitor with Viewsonic's support for around $350 is hard to beat... I don't know, may be after I get it, if the quality seem indeed subpar, I may return it... I would really like to get the Samsung and compare Trinitron and Diamond tubes, but beige monitor with black system *might* look little out of place 😉

Thanks.

Both Samsung and ViewSonic use DiamondTron NF, you'll need a Sony(KDS, CTX, ADI, IBM, Mag) to see the difference between them.

Thanks all for your replies. It's nice to see that there are some Viewsonic supporters out there. Makes me feel much more confortable with my purchase. One thing I did notice is that the Diamondtron tube isn't as bright as the Trinitron tube, which is less irritating to the eyes, and prevents one from having to fiddle with the monitor controls to attain a comfortable level of brightness and contrast. BTW, the Trinitron model I had was the KDS AV7TF. Again, thanks!

I have the E790B monitor. i think its a pretty decent monitor. not as sharp as the trinitron ones but i am satisfied with it. one note tho . recently for some odd reason whever i turn back on the monitor, the image was magnified then comes back to focus. i dont know. its a really cool looking monitor. but i think i will get a trinitron monitor soon to run dual monitors!
