Just want to get some quick advice on a purchase I'm about to make.....

Which sounds like the "better" deal to you?

Both monitors are Viewsonic, and I chose them not only based on specs and availability, but also their outside color schemes match my other peripherals quite well....

Viewsonic A90f+ : (Approx $220 after rebate avaiable locally) Specs

Pros: Less expensive, readily available locally, fairly decent specs.
Cons: Inferior specs to the P90f. (but $70 cheaper)

Viewsonic P90f : (Approx $290 online shipped) Specs

Pros: Superior specs.
Cons: Will have to order over the net, more expensive.

So what do you think? I can't seem to make up my mind which is the better buy.

I'd go with the P90f, monitor is a long term investment and I think it's worth the extra clams.

I have two Viewsonic VX900s and they are really outstanding monitors (LCD.)

Generally it is a good idea to spend more money on parts like monitors, keyboards, and other peripherals because they tend to outlast any other piece of hardware you might buy. Monitors in particular can always be used and last over a decade sometimes. I would go with the more expensive model. The cost difference isn't massive, but the monitor looks noticeably better according to the specs.

Well, I've been using the A90f for quite some time and I love it. The P90f looks like it might make you happier. I like the higher refresh rate at 1280x1024. My only problem with what you mention is that I absolutely refuse to buy a monitor anywhere but locally. I'm extremely picky about how a monitor looks, and the last few I've bought I've taken back to swap for another unit at least once because of some problem....either a dead pixel, color not quite right, etc... Even two of the exact same model have looked different when sitting side by side. I'm probably just too picky, but when I'm shelling out $200-$300 I think I have every right to expect satisfaction :) I don't know if you have heart set on Viewsonic, so have you looked at Samsung any? They have a couple of 19" monitors in that price range (the 955DF comes to mind) that you might like. That might be available locally. Just a thought. Let us know what you decide on!

My problem is that there seems to be a real lack of places to buy computer monitors in the area, aside from officemax, compusa, bestbuy, staples etc, (which don't carry too many models to begin with) there is only a couple small computer stores, and the only monitors they seem to carry are used/archaic models. I could always try a computer show or two that seem to crop up a few a month I suppose.

But as it is, it seems the best choice I've got is ordering online. Has anyone had a problem ordering a monitor online?

I've seen the A90f+ around town, as I said, and it looks quite good, I can only guess that the P90f can only be better.

I have a Viewsonic A75f that I have owned for about a year and a half. It is a really good monitor for the money. Their larger monitors should be just as good.

As for ordering online, as long as you order from a reputable online store you shouldn't have a problem. I ordered a Nokia 19" monitor 4 years ago online and it still works fine. I would order online again if I needed a new monitor.

I've been using the A90f for a year or so now for graphic design. It's a GREAT monitor. Haven't regretted the purchase ONCE. :)
