Got a new ViewSonic VP201b LCD recently. AWESOME quality, however I have been plaqued with an infrequent problem. There's a great 3 year warranty so I'm not TOO concerned, but I want to make sure I've exhausted all other possibilities before I RMA the LCD for a replacement. My hardware:
ASUS P4C800-E Deluxe (BIOS 1019)
ATI Radeon 9600 XT Catalyst 4.11
350W Antec PSU
It may happen 5 minutes after starting the computer or it may take a few hours (or not at all on some days), but in the blink of an eye, all colors become distorted, and some pixels start glowing. Turning the LCD off, waiting 20-30 seconds and turning it back on usually clears it up but it eventually happens again. However when it happens and I FIRST turn the computer off and leave the LCD on, a wierd snow of green pixels cascades across the screen until the signal clears and it goes black. The type of snow/distortion/interference you see on some TVs when you turn some interfering electronic device.
Some facts to help troubleshoot:
- Happens with both DVI and Analog connections
- When it happened last night I immediately turned it off, hooked it up to another computer with an older NVIDIA card and turned it on...AND GOT THE SAME DISTORTION from the other machine.
I seem to have isolated it from a video card/driver problem since it happened on another machine. I know LCDs are not subject to interference in the same manner as CRTs, but the best way I can describe the the visual distortion is some kind of interference. Could this be an overheating issue for some LCD component and is interference from an outside source possible with an LCD? Hoping I'm not looking at an RMA, Thanks!
