Viewsonic 24" LCD for 219.00 at Costco starting 2-9-09

Just picked one up today. It's very nice. Fits perfectly on my desk, as I need to have a monitor height of less than 16.5" to fit under the shelves, which this was.

No dead pixels and the colors are nice and sharp.

I work in the sales department at the Costco in East Plano, Texas (for over 3 years now). I can tell you that LCD monitors DO carry the lifetime return policy. As long as you keep your membership over the course of owning the item, you can return it. Now if you cancel (or simply don't renew) your membership during the course of owning the item, then the decision is solely up to a manager. I know at my store we typically allow the member to reapply and then do the return, but thats just my store. Anyway, only ipods, TVs, cameras and computers have the 90 day/2 year warranty. And yes, if you return too much stuff they can flag your account. Hell I work there and my account is flagged for returning TVs I wasn't satisfied with (all within 30 days mind you) but I know my brother on my account returned a bunch of stuff too so that didn't help. Oh well, I got my TV before they changed the return policy so technically I've got $1,800 of credit at Costco! Think I'll wait for 52" OLED panels. :laugh:

You'd rather get 10% fewer pixels for roughly the same monitor size? Vertical pixels matter on a computer monitor. You can view more of a page in a Word doc, more of a web page, etc. And when you're viewing 16:9 content, you can just have 60px black bars on the top and bottom of the screen.

I decided to get one last night and I couldn?t be happier. No dead or stuck pixels. No banding or ghosting. The colors really pop and I really enjoy the wider aspect ratio too. The viewing angles are poor but that?s no big deal since I sit right in front of the monitor when I?m using it. There is some light bleed too but it is mild and only noticeable on a black screen. I didn?t feel the image was quite as sharp as my old Ultra Sharp but the image overall is much better so I?m happy.

You are correct. I was referring to pixel count. The monitor is quite a bit bigger than my square 20 incher.

Thanks! Picked up the Vizio 42" 1080p TV last night for $699 + tax + recycling - $100. The picture quality is actually quite nice! I have no regrets going with this set over the Panasonic TH-42PX80U.

Thanks again lads for the heads up on this deal. I went out and bought one from the Goleta, CA Costco. $269 - $50 + tax + waste fee = $253.04

Crossing my fingers that it will have no dead pixels when I try it out at home tonight. If it does I am not sure I will be able to exchange it as there was only 1 left in the store in which case I will need a refund.

Anyone care to share their tweaked monitor settings for this?

I really really want to like this monitor but I have issues with color/brightness. It is very dull and washed out looking.

I used several online lcd calibration tools as well as the optimizer in Windows Media Center. Contrast set to about 70-75 and Brightness to 0. Even at 0 it's too bright. Needs to go to about -50 or so. Color set to default 6500k.

I have a 19" Dell E198wfp at factory defaults side by side with this and the difference is pretty stark. Both lcd's are TN panels I believe (Dell is 8 bit, Viewsonic 6 bit?).

I want to keep this, I really do. If I can't fix the colors tho I need to keep shopping.

I love the brightness but I noticed there were some power saving options that cut brightness by 25 or 50%. Would that help you?

So I got mine setup. It is really nice once you get the calibration correct. I actually left the displays hardware settings default and used my nVidia control panel to adjust the brightness/contrast/gamma. Also I am using DVI which tends to bring a brighter / more vivid picture by default than the Analog does. It is a great monitor to say the least and best of all no dead pixels!

I just got this yesterday....

Compared to my AGING Dell 1800FP (IPS panel) this thing is horrible. I've been messing around with settings for about 3-4 hours and haven't found anything that I'm comfortable with. If someone has a way to reduce the overblown, washed out colors please let me know. I turn down brightness, gamma, contrast, and its either too dark or too washed out. The colors just aren't "popping" out and it doesn't look vibrant at all.

Perhaps this will be a trip to Costco... Thank god for that return policy.

Anyone have a recommendation to replace my older IPS panel?

Picked one of these up today and I'm loving it. I was coming from a 27" LCD TV, and despite the decrease in screen size, pretty much everything else is better. I immediately noticed the improvement in both response time and input lag, and this monitor actually has better black levels and less black crush than the TV.

Anyway, no dead/stuck pixels, about 0.5" of backlight bleed on the top and bottom. It's not annoying though, and unlike past TN monitors with backlight bleed, I can't notice it in games unless I really look for it. Luckily, the rest of the panel has a very uniform brightness.

All in all an awesome deal.
