Viewsonic 19" 12ms panel $546 shipped (no tax)

-Viewsonic panels rock.

-Bush DOES suck

-...and that is one of the funniest damn sig quotes I have ever seen in my life! AWESOME!

I saw this on Newegg too. Would you buy this for $545.99 from the Egg, or wait on an order from Dell for $503.85, or something else? Newegg will ship tomorrow, Dell who knows.

My order from Dell is a "backorder", supposed to ship by 1/28. Dell's account web pages are totally borked. At first my account had another guys name on it, scary. I checked the cerdit card and nobody has charged anything, including Dell. After MANY emails and a hour long call I can only see the info below, no other account is accessable. I changed my name etc on the account, but still can't see crap because it says there are no customer info linked to my acocunt or some BS. One "customer circus employee" on the phone just sat there without answering my questions, then put me back into the phone quque. After wading back through the menus, I received a nice "our office is closed message". Another "customer circus employee" told me that it was my job to go to a webmaster page and fill out pages of information to help them to find out what was wrong with THEIR website. Not my job. Geraldine tried to be helpful and polite in her emails, but I ended at the same end result, can't see the order online under my account.

This information is current as of Monday, January 24, 2005.
Delayed Items
Currently one or more items are backordered. Every effort is being made to complete the order.
SKU: <> A0408028 Quantity: 1
Description: <> VP912b 19-inch LCD Monitor
Estimated Ship Date: 1/28/2005

After the sh*t I have gone through to try to fix my account, I'd hate to think what I'd go through if there was a problem AFTER the sale. Opinions?

I'm in the same boat as you all -- due to ship on 1/27 from Dell. Let us know if you end up getting yours. mmshah - I've heard other people who have ordered the 912b from Dell in the last week have a ship date of March.

It's big difference in cash, but Viewsonic vs. Hyundai? C'mon.
Hyundai makes good LCDs. That 8ms panel is tempting.

The Hyundai is a samsung panel. I would take samsung over viewsonic for LCD...

But its also a TN panel, so not true 16.7 million colors, thats why the response and price difference.

In the title.

Show me specs. I could post 5ms, but that's hardly factual.

google for all of 4 seconds and you will see it is indeed 8ms...

I order the viewsonic from dell this weekend using the latest coupon. Total was 469.96 shipped. Yeah ... I gotta wait until Feb for it. 8(

Hyundai L90+ review here. They say nice things. It uses the same panel as the Samsung 915N will (when it comes out -- also known as a 913N, I think in Europe). FWIW - the Viewsonic is also a 6-bit TFT panel, so I think the price difference has more to do with brand name than anything else.

and the hyundai has a better response time, right?

I hear that monitor has technology similar to the sony Xbrites. I recently bought a 17inch sony xbrite for 448bucks 400AR and the display is wonderful. However, I wished i had gotten a nineteen inch. I might very well bring it back and get this monitor. It's only 100bucks more. So teh question is: is 2inches and -4ms response time -50 contrast ratio worth 100bucks(150)? hmmmmmmmmmmmmf...decisions decisions. Can someone answer this question 😀

Everything I've seen says the VP912B is an 8 bit panel.

View Angle: 150° / 135° (Horizontal / Vertical)

That's probably the weakest aspect to the Hyundai panel, will the Samsung have the same weakness?

What about 17" options, I know Viewsonics 8ms 17" model seems not to have any big weaknesses and comes at an affordable $350, I've got a "hunch" the Samsungs won't be as cheap as the Hyundais...

I read the review and the Samsung is supposed to have less than stellar viewing angles, but the viewing angle specs from the review show the Samsung as better than the Hyundai

I think someone was asking why the viewsonic is more expensive than the hyundai, so I was trying to say what the viewsonic has over the hyundai. By specs alone (which are hard to trust with LCDs), the viewsonic has better brightness and better viewing angle, and the hyundai has better contrast and response time (and also has speakers too, if that matters).

Bunny, I have heard the same about the new 8ms Samsung -- it will have worse viewing angles and will price in the $500s somewhere (can't remember where I read that).

Freakflag, I thought the same thing, but after seeing this pretty detailed site, it appears that the viewsonic uses this AU Optronics panel, which is a 6-bit panel. I can't verify that any of these sites are 100% accurate, but I don't think I've seen an 8-bit panel with <20ms response time for 19" LCDs. Please someone correct me if they've seen one or have other information on the vp912b panel.

I am REALLY getting fed up with Dell support, or should I say lack of. Now I have Vishnu emailing from "webmaster" support. He's (he/she?) asking me to input my customer number and link it to my hosed account. If it didn't work the previous 999 times and he hasn't fixed it, why does he think it will work now. Ding, ding, ding, it doesn't. I am really on the edge, ready to bail on Dell. I don't trust them.

I looked up the information on Viewsonic's website and it basically says all LCDs are 16.7million colors. If it is 16.7million, doesn't it have to be 8bit unless they are not stating the truth?

UPDATE: 1/26/05

Someone else will be getting my monitor, scheduled to ship 1/28, my Dell order is officially canceled. I want to buy my hardware from a real company, not Dell. I have done enough trouble-shooting of their ordering system for them.

Even the cancellation was painful. The US person said they were building my monitor (Dell building Viewsonic? doubtful) so he needed to transfer me to customer circus, and I went on infinate hold back to Mumbai, India. I think I talked to the same woman with bad cell phone connections again. After repeating my simple email name a zillion times and then spelling it repeatedly, I am now Dell free. She did ask me to give her a good rating if asked, told me that the scale is 1 for poor and 9 for excellent.

Then I really don't get it, because the other specs don't add up either. The viewing angle on that AOU panel is only 140/140 while Viewsonic calls it 160/160. Likewise, the contrast ratio is listed at 450:1 on Viewsonics site but 500:1 on AOU. I'm gonna have to make a phonecall.
