Its not the performance bit. Its the fact that at a $200 pricepoint its a pile of rubbish.
 
I think the people with 600 series cards are the only ones they can sell it to because they sure can't to people with 700s.

How do you not?

900 series was primarily meant for 670/680 owners.

Now don't twist the context into making it look like he said NO 780 owners bought 900 series. Of course they have, but the upgrade path was really meant for GK104 owners. True GK110 upgrade path will likely be GM200.
 
We don't compare new midrange cards to 2 generation old midrange cards, we compare to the previous generation. This is so obvious, can anyone really believe folks are buying into the crap nVidia is pulling here by marketing the 960 against the 660 rather than the 760? Not many I hope.

Lets not do nVidia's bidding by buying into and pushing their nonsense of the 960 being put against the 660 rather than the 760.

The 960 compares to the 760 to see what it can do and what it brings to the table, which is not much. The answer to the "not much" is not to compare the 960 to the 660.

I can't believe you couldn't follow what we were talking about either.

We are saying that most people buying 900 series cards are not coming from GTX 700 series but from older cards. From the threads I've seen this is true.
 
What a garbage, this and the 285! And Nvidia labels it as insane overclocker LOL, you can reach 1500mhz but the memory clocks are at its maximum already.
 
well another marketing gimik by nvidia. they should've created something to replace the 760 as it would make much more sense.

Hey, even over on neogaf reception is quite positive. It's us who are critical, enthusiasts.

Nvidia's majority fan base doesn't really care where the competition falls. They want a card slower than a GTX 970 for $200. The GTX 960 is that card, even if it's not a good performance sell at $200. Many consumers buy one brand and only one brand.

This card may look bad, but it'll sell well.

There is truth here. Many people have been burned by a certain brand and refuse to go back because they have been pleased with the other choice. So they look at options from the brand they prefer and they might not want to spend $350 on a GPU as they aren't looking to do 1080p max everything. The 960 is the card for such people you are absolutely correct.

It doesn't matter what they are coming from, a 660, a 560, 270, or a pickled egg. The 660 garb is just pathetic rationalization for nVidia's typical marketing crap here.

The 960 getting compared by nVidia marketing against 2 gen old 660 is junk marketing plain and simple. It speaks to how weak the 960 is, nothing else. The "660 upgrade path" is a lousy crutch to be banking on here.

Did it ever occur to you that it was designed from the beginning to be an upgrade for people who have cards going on 3 years old (GTX 600 series)? You can't expect me to believe you don't even think it's possible in the slightest. People with cards that old have likely gotten to the point where they want a new card, sell it to those people. Tell them why their 2.5 year old card should be replaced. I highly doubt there's as many people looking to upgrade from a 700 series so quickly.
 
It would be even more attractive if it were faster.

If 660 users didn't upgrade to 760 or better already, why would this card change their minds? 🙄
 
Over here, 960 sells for the same price as R280X.

I'd say thats fine, people are willing to pay a premium NV tax & extra for efficiency.

But more tech savy folks should be wary of a 2gb vram card that's obsolete for 1080p in many newer games.

Cause they have a card that is now going on 3 years old. For many, that's about when the upgrade occurs. I'm including myself in that group. Coming from 670s to 970s. I do agree though that everyone should try to save a bit more and spend the extra for the 970 or equivalent.

If you can afford $350 for a GPU the 970 is fantastic. I'd recommend doing that if you can. Even if you have to save a couple extra weeks.
