No MSRP is given, not that it matters.

One thing notable is that the article mentions that there's an "up to" qualifier for the 8 GB of memory. So there might be 4 GB models released at some point.

And the 6600 can do 1440p smoothly, if you dial in the settings for a particular title. There are a few where it isn't suitable, but those are outliers comparatively. And there are games now, where that Fury runs out of memory at 1080. Selling the Fury and keeping the 6600 is a no brainer from my perspective.

That.'s what I wanted to read. I went 1440p just as the pandemic hit but kept my GTX 970 hoping for the best. I'm now looking for the first AMD card I can get at a "reasonable" price so I can play some games on at least medium with steady 60fps.

Thanks for the reassuring words. I've become increasingly pessimistic about prices ever returning to normal. I honestly don't know much about mining so I have no idea if another type of mining is lurking in the shadows ready to keep or drive prices higher. Supply issues have also been a problem lately.

Not sure what I want to do about the Fury. It would make a nice card for my backup 1600AF rig replacing the 7970. I would probably be kicking myself later if I don't sell the Fury when the prices are high though.

In other news the RX 6600 is out for delivery.

@DAPUNISHER has a good point, but if the Fury is a lot stronger than the 7970 and if you really want to have a decent card for your backup rig - well, the Fury would be a big step up and if you want it (that level of performance) back at some point, you'll probably get stuck paying a premium too...

Clearly $100 means different things to different folks, but the 7970 will be essentially worthless when the Fury really drops in value. 🤷‍♂️

I am probably being too paranoid and keeping too many things on my part shelves right now but I think you keep the good stuff right now and really only sell the cruft. :)

Rather ironic, don't you think, that a "gamer" would object to lifting a finger to participate in the Newegg Shuffle, when that was DESIGNED to fight scalpers and bots, and to give gamers a BETTER CHANCE at getting a card, rather than just fighting off bots among the "virtual shelves".

You can't win if you don't play. As a miner speaking to gamers, "don't blame me for your own lack of motivation" (to get a GPU). I just picked up two in the last two days, and I could have picked up a 3060 besides.

Meh a $620 RTX 3060 isn't all that exciting

You have to leave that mindset about pricing behind. Unless you are going to hold out indefinitely. Because prices will likely remain high for quite some time yet. Heck, there are already credible accusations of chip hoarding to artificially inflate prices.

Not me. I jumped to console with PC being such a money pit.

Can you really get a console for MSRP right now anyways?

Yeah if you follow drops. I got one from Walmart at MSRP. Only retailers jacking prices up right now are Best Buy with their $200 membership to get access to high demand drops. Even scalped though (they go for ~$800 on ebay) still way cheaper than building a similar level PC with that $620 RTX 3060 posted above.

Retailers are obligated to sell at MSRP, and even bundles are supposed to allow the customer to return or exchange the non-console stuff for something else.

The membership thing is new and kind of intriguing as a way around that.

Hope Sony tells Best Buy to quit that garbage or they'll stop getting the systems in. I wouldn't touch Best Buy extended warranties with a ten foot pole after hearing how long they take when you have problems and have no use for Geek Squad 24/7 tech support, so that total tech membership would be worthless to me. If they still had Gamers Club Unlocked now that would be different.

I got the RX 6600 installed. When it comes to benchmarking I'm not sure what I'm doing or what is considered a good or bad result.

Your Time Spy and RDR2 scores are right where they should be. But did you accidentally swap the max on Bioshock, that seems odd.
The BioShock score is what I have wrote down. I also found it odd. They have the option to benchmark before you start the game. Maybe they counted frames between transitions a bit longer with the Fury.

The Bioshock benchmark tool tries to cull the frame times during the transitions to avoid counting the weirdness that happens at the beginning and end of scenes, but it's not always 100% successful.

@balloonshark whats the resolution settings for your benches? :). Thanks for sharing!

I am guessing 1440p from TimeSpy screens. I’ll be interested to see what you can get out of some gentle tweaking on settings.
The game benchmarks should have been at 1080p. I left TimeSpy at default settings but it does indeed look like 1440p.

I just did a custom run of TimeSpy at 1080p with everything else set default.

At 1440p, my GeForce 2060 Super can still beat that score by about 1,000 points. My Ryzen 3700X can't compete with that Core i7-10700K, though. You got me beat by 1,600 in the CPU benchmark.

They actually aren't and can't be forced to once they've purchased their inventory. The S in MSRP should tell you as much. If it went to court the case would get tossed out due to the first-sale doctrine and any contract saying otherwise would be deemed unenforceable.

However in normal times most stores will sell at or slightly below MSRP since the competition is going to have similar prices so raising yours drives customers to competitors and even though Sony can't force anyone to sell at their suggested price they aren't under any obligation to sell more consoles to any particular store or otherwise do business with them in the future, so it's unwise to anger a supplier.

But putting all of that aside can you just walk into a store and pay MSRP and walk out with a new console or do you need to camp out because 50 other people also want the 10 consoles that a store is getting in that week? That's fine if your time is worth nothing, but I'd rather not have to deal with that hassle if it could be avoided.

I guess. But that's not what's going on with GPUs - At Newgg, any bundles they have for instance usually mandates that you must return the GPU if you try to return the crappy stuff they typically bundle for instance. And they can (and are) pricing it however they like. Of course what the distributor is charging for the cards varies too and is likely much higher than the official MSRP.

Certainly not without time and effort, or luck. Or I would have a series X already. And the seemingly easy solution of just buy a console, is myopic. Many of us need a fairly powerful PC for more tasks than gaming. Hence investing $400-$500 in a 6600 is a better solution. Nevermind some of us put 1000s of hrs into games not on console, like the Total War franchise.

@ultimatebob

Your 2060S would fetch more money, too! :)

Realistically its right where the reviews put it it, slower than a 3060 which is usually pacing the 2060S.
All 3 are so close, performance is a wash. Features, warranty, availability, and pricing, are the meat&potatoes.

On another note: there are some lazy reviewers out there. To keep from having to retest everything, they are still using 8&9&10 series Intel platforms. Meaning the 6600 is stuck at PCIe 3 x8, like @balloonshark is. Yeah, yeah, no significant differences in performance, at least not yet.

Idk, a B560 mobo doesn't sound that great. Maybe B550 or Z590/X570, but I would pass on non OC capable intel mobos.

Do you all know of any guides on how to overclock and stress test this GPU the right way?

Also, where is the proper site for MSI Kombustor? I see a msikombustor.com site and geek3d.com which has a newer version that supports the RX 6600.
