this is just posted on the inquirer they didn?t make it up like norm.

Yes well why not 8000Mhz ... XDR2 Ram is aiming for a slice of the GDDR market and if there ram performs the same per MHz it looks like they could take the whole pie.

^__^ Should be interesting to see if Game Developers could make use of that memory speed. but it will surly separate Old video cards from the new.

Huge tech jump . well in memory anyways
G80 600Mhz+ 32Pipeline+ core 8000Mhz- XDR2
R600 600Mhz+ 32Pipeline+ core 8000Mhz- XDR2

VS

G70 430Mhz 24Pipeline core 1200Mhz GDD3
R520 500Mhz+ Something Pipelines 1200Mhz GDD3

NO license is good enough.

Rambus reminds me of Capt. Sobel from Band of Brothers. Has anyone seen the series? Great show.

Rambus? They still around? I thought they got b*tch-slapped enough times over the past couple of years. Must not have gotten the hint the first time.

Would be nice.. But...... Rambus

They'll probably sue anyone who tries to use their technology

If they dont pay the royalties, for the technology with they invented, and is far suprior to current tech.

Just like the big 8 tried to do with DDR.

They have beat or settled every memory manufacturer in their lawsuits for DDR but 2.

Micron and Hynix.

They recently settled with Infineon for ~ US $900mil

If the memory is as fast as they say it is, then it would indeed be fast, but not useful for anything at the moment. Right now, games are needing more pixel shader and raw geometry power. Games are pushingh the GPUs, not the memory. This is also why you have not seen much in the improvement of memory bandwith on cards, as it is not needed much anymore.

GF3 TI500 8GB/s
GF4 Ti4600 10.4GB/s

Radeon 9700 Pro 19.8GB/s
Radeon 9800 Pro 21.7GB/s

Geforce 6800 Ultra 35.2GB/s

Geforce 7800GTX 38.4GB/s

As you can see, the ONLY major jump in bandwith is from the GF4 series to the R300 series. From then on even two generations later, bandwith has not even doubled.

The 9800 Pro by all means should trounce the X700 Pro and 6600GT if you look at history and their current specs. Video cards with more memory bandwith were ALWAYS faster. But come to present day, where the 9800 Pro has more bandwith than both the X700 Pro and the 6600GT and yet it either matches them or loses to them in all recent benchmarks and game tests.

Memory bandwith isn't needed as much as before.

How much would this cost.

OOOO R600 with XDR2 at 1 Gazillion dollars!!!

Hopefully theyll come down in price when im 150 years old
