Videocard Upgrade Question

Hello,

Currently my gaming setup is starting to show its age. I have a 7800 gt (256 megs of ram) for my video card and would like to upgrade it without buying a new PS (currently have a 400w). On Hot Deals, I found this card

My question is, is this card overkill for my setup? I currently have a Eponx9NPA MB which has PCI-E v.1, not v.2. Is it worth getting this card even though it is a PCI-E v.2 card? Would I be better off with getting a PCI-E v.1 video card card with more ram ( 512 rather than the 384 meg) and a slower clockrate due to the slower PCI-E bus?

My system specs for further consideration?
Opteron 2ghz @ 2.5 ghz
2 gigs of ram
Epox 9NPA
Current Video Card : 7800 gt

Thanks
Hamham

Nah, I don't believe at all an 8800GS is at all overkill for an Opteron. Go ahead and buy it, should run fine on your power supply as well.

It will run in PCI-e v.1. Doesn't have to be v.2. They are backwards compatible.

Should be a nice card for your setup. Those (8800GS's) overclock quite well typically too, so keep that in mind.

You may also want to look for a deal on the HD4670 - no ext. power required and has more memory than the 8800GS (but pricier too)

8800GS is a great card and fairly matched for your Opty. Grab one, OC to around 650-700 on the core and it will about match a stock clocked 8800GT/9800GT.

EDIT: Don't worry about PCIe 2.0 versus 1.0, even the 4870/GTX 280 haven't even saturated the bandwidth of the 1.0 socket. You will have no problem with the 8800GS.
