Between SE, XT, GT, none, and Pro (and others that may exist). Between the manufacturers, how does the higherarchy work? SE>none>pro>XT/GT?

this is how i understand it:
x800xt pe VS 6800 ultra extreme
x800xt VS 6800 ultra
x800 pro VS 6800 gt
x800se VS 6800 nu

ATi:

XT > Pro > ___ > SE

nVidia:

Ultra > GT > ____ > XT

Note the switch from ATi to nVidia when you look at "XT".

There is a 6800Pro. There will also be a 6800LE, so I've heard.

NVIDIA - XT - lowest end (usually crippled with a lower memory bus/clock speeds)
- Non-Ultra - standard revision (also called NU)
- GT - adds 4 more pipes to the 6800 (16 pipes instead of 12)
- Ultra - Faster than GT (higher clock speeds)
- Ultra extreme - Fastest Nvidia (still higher clock speeds)

ATI - SE - lowest end (usually crippled with a lower memory bus)
- Non-Pro - standard revision (some call it NP)
- Pro faster than NP, (sometimes higher clock speeds)
- XT fastest (basically an overclocked pro but rated higher)

This is as close as I understand it while speaking broadly, are you wondering on a specific line? IE: 9x00, x800, FX or 6800. Its a little different for each line.

i havent heard of a nvidia xt before nor have i heard of a x800 NP. the x800xt pe is for PCI-E and agp while the x800xt is impossible to find right now because its ONLY PCI-E. this is what i read from a firing squad review. hope this clears it up a bit.

X800 XT PE is an AGP card as well, it is just clocked higher then the x800 XT. I believe it is 520mhz.

Umm 5900XT is reasonably popular, pretty much entry level 256-bit memory. 5600XT is there, but trashy.

The XT PE also comes with 1.6ns rated memory chips compared to the 2.0ns ones found on the Pro and XT.

That is the APPROXIMATE progression from low speed to high speed. In some cases there is some overlap as in one card could move up or down a spot or two from where it's at depending on the game, AA/AF level, etc... There is a definite gap between the 128 bit cards and the 256 bit cards.

There can be some argument about the EXACT order, because there is no real EXACT order, but that gives you an idea what is close to what.
