Anyone know what I would need to get my nforce motherboard to spit out 480i over component cables? Im kinda lost on all the terminology and all the different things I have found on the net. I dont have an HDTV yet, but would like to do this with my current tv (toshiba PureFlat 20") The TV doesnt say anywhere that it support progressivescan, but I seem to have heard on here that some non-HDs will do 480p.

a transcoder will work. ati cards can use a dongle that will output component and its ~$30.

for any other card you will need the transcoder.

i just did some reading on toshiba "ColorStream® Component Video Inputs" and it seems that they only support progressive scan from toshiba components. so the transcoder or the ati dongle wont give you progressive scan. i would wait until you get a hdtv ready tv to use the component inputs.

I am pretty sure the colorstream will support interlaced signals. I found a transcoder by RCA, but it says something about only passing the signal and it wont work unless the tv supports the resolutions from the VGA output. Is there any way I can get the interlaced 640X480 signal to come out of my nforce?

The Key Digital Link I gave you in your last thread should work. Of course the display must support the output from the VGA port, thats how it works. The transcoder only converts the signal from VGA to YPbPr. What do you mean from your NForce MB? Does it have onboard VGA? It should work, you might need powerstrip to configure the timings, but I think the forceware drivers have interlaced and progressive timings.

Ok, I think I understand it. I found an RCA one that has basically the same specs as that Key Digital one, that someone wants to sell. It is the onboard video Im running on the Nforce, Ill try out the forceware stuff and powerstrip and try it out, I can always sell it on ebay if my tv dont like it I guess. Then maybe I will be able to read the damn text on my TV:)

It should work if it will output 480i. Then you should be able to configure your Nforce to run at 480i, I'd verify it myself but the motherboard I use for my GF4 is in Fresno getting RMA'd (its my only NV rig) and I didn't feel like putting it in another rig just for a couple weeks while I wait. Powerstrip will do it I'm sure, but I think the new forceware drivers offer interlaced timings that work as well.

There's a few of them. The key digital will probably give you the best quality. Close behind that is the audio authority one. Far behind that is the RCA. I believe there's a really good one for a reasonable price on AVS forum (a few members put it together).
