No they don't. Tomboys turn out just fine.

Yea, if she keeps boxing, she is probably going to have to be forced into puberty by a doctor. It happened to my friend who has been playing basketball competitively since she was 5.

She was a LATE bloomer for real. She didn't become a woman until like 12th grade.

while athleteic girls tend to hit puberty latter. many doctors say its not they are hitting it latter then they should they are actually hitting when they should.

there is a debate on why girls hit it so early. most have to do with the amount of body fat/ muscle. more body fat tends to bring the onset of puberty early.

Not when a Gymnast purposefully keeps her body in a pre-pubescent state. The keep their weight low to avoid gaining weight which leads to puberty. And that leads to getting taller which is not good.

I don't know this little girl so I don't know what her situation will be. All I know is that being forced to have your period at 17 when all the other girls in school have had it since 7th or 8th grade is kind of hard. She was embarrassed most of the time because she didn't know how to control accidents.

She never developed because she played basketball and trained so hard over those years. She was short, muscular, and flat chested until then.

well with 15-30 hours of gymnastics practice girls don't need to keep weight low. in fact just the opposite they have to eat high calorie to keep muscle mass up.

Yes, and practicing that rigorously starting from a young age and going well into your teenage years affects your body.

Female Gymnasts reach their prime around 16-17. For men, its around 20-21

yes it does.

as i'm just correcting you on that they keep weight low when in fact its the opposite. most eat high calorie high protein diets to keep mass.

with the amount of practice they do (well that does depend on levels) keeping weight down is not a real issue.

I was thinking the same. But last night was my kids twd/self defense class. they do pretty much the same with the younger kids.
I train my own son, and a few kids of friends. I have zero interest in doing it otherwise. That said, what you observed is commonplace. My POV about most "TMA" doing that, is that it is a mistake. My mantra for it - "The first way is the worst way." I have had some long debates IRL and in stand up forums with traditionalists over it. E.G. some styles of karate, and especially Shotokan, teach kihon/basics for kicking by having you keep your arms out to the side and low. I understand very well why they do it, I just do not agree.

It is as though they treat everyone as being mentally challenged when they start the system. One of the things I love about boxing, is that every coach I've met, teach the correct fundamentals from the first session. There are no baby steps, no "building up to it", you learn correctly from the get go. Hence, no built in bad habits to unlearn later.

The girl is excellent, and pop is training her great. And he was doubtless trying to show off how coordinated she is already. I just like to nit pick, because I am an asshole like that. :|

lol being an asshole is good though.

I think (at least for my kids place) why they teach to to square up is (well in this class) they teach everything. you need to be kinda square to protect and be ready to shoot for a takedown.

my dad tried to teach me boxing (he won a bunch of featherweight titles in the army and college) i seem to remember squaring up too (i hated boxing just wasn't fun compared to wrestling and other martial arts) though its been 20 odd years.

I agree about the kicks. My sons old karate (YMCA little dragons) place they would teach when throwing a kick throw your hands down. WTF! so he learned to throw kicks that way. When he started where he is it took a LONG time to break him of that habit. now he can throw all his kicks with his hands up at his face. Glad my daughter started at this place so she didn't lear that way.

You are a grappler alright. 🙂 I have always found striking of any kind the most fun. Probably because I'm tall and have good reach. You are short correct? Makes sense you would want to get a hold of everyone.

Your son's situation is indeed a perfect example.

Hand to hand combat is for animals. The dad should be teaching the kid how to handle firearms, and practicing head shots. BOOM!

I have a problem with the music in the video, but I don't have a problem with teaching kids self-defense. With this, you also have to teach kids not to be instigators, but to protect themselves from bullies. Any bully who tries to mess with this girl will get knocked out on the 1st or 2nd punch, no doubt. That girl won't be a bully for long after that.

I agree, the boxing was cool but exposing your young child to that C rap music with MF'er every 2nd word is a really bad idea unless you want her talking like that herself..
