Interesting concept, check out the video.

It is insane that after two elections of under handed tactics people (predominately students and lower-income Americans) are being kept from voting. This isn't a partisan issue either - its an issue about the fundamentals of democracy.

I dont want this thread to become partisan but unfortunately as I said most voter suppression is of students and lower income individuals. Both of these groups lean towards the democratic ticket more. I am sure this happens to republicans/conservatives to but if you base the reported incidents of what is seen on the net and in the media it seems to disproportionately block democratic voters.

Thats why I am happy groups like PFAW do so much election protection and have the lawyers to back them up.

This video the vote project is cool. I'm an Obama supporter but I'd be willing to film any suppression be it of an Obama supporter, McCain supporter, or a third party. We should have faith in our democratic system and its hard when people are trying to keep young people, poor people, and others from having their voices heard equally no matter who they vote for.

Possibly, but who is the "side" that is constantly challenging people's ability to vote?

Please don't do that. A far more effective technique is to seek out the attorney at the poll (nearly every sizeable polling place in all swing states, at a minimum will have a volunteer attorney observer), bring the problem to the attention of your party's pollwatcher (at every polling place) or the polling place moderator.

I've done a lot of poll watching myself for a lot of years, and it is my firm belief that essentially all poll moderators, regardless of which party they are from, have as their number one priority to run a fair election at their polling place. A polite, nonthreatening conversation with them first about what you perceive as a problem will probably work wonders-the problem could easily be something that they didn't realize was a problem. Then go to the attorney, poll watcher, etc.

Other good alternatives are calling your local news channel, or better the state attorney general's office (or whatever office in your state regulates elections).

Videotaping would be way, way down on my list of things to do. Starting off acting like a jackass is not the best route to go.

Incidentally, videotaping is a frequent tool of voter intiimidation in and of itself.

I don't think it's the conservatives in my county registering all the illegals.

has anyone actually encountered real voter suppression this side of the 1960's?

seems almost like a boogieman to scare people with like fears about voter fraud that have never materialized.
