hey... i have a 512/384 k dsl connection and i want to stream a personal video to my relatives who have a 4 mbps / 384 k cable connection.. i wanna know

1) will it buffer too much?? Its a 700-800 mb .mpg file
2) what free software can i use to stream it?

thanks

well you can upload at 384kbps max, so I would stream at 192-256kbps just to account for overhead, and even that may be too much. Just download windows media encoder 9 from microsoft, encode it at one of those low bitrates, and serve it from you computer at port 8080. Then have them go to mms://yourip:8080 to view it. Make sure you forward port 8080 on your router.

hmm i have a windows 98SE so i tried using encoder 9 but it doesnt work on 98.. btw, i made a mistake.. i have a 512/128 conn not 512/384.. what do u think a decent upload speed would be??? 64??? also if im trying to play a video, will there be any lag in the video and will it be watchable?

thanks

let them download the video overnight and be done with it. no streaming.

or burn on cdr/dvdr and mail it since your upload is tiny.

you should be able to stream on 56kpbs just fine, but who likes to watch movies in a tiny frame? do what wfay suggested.

ye was just trying to see if there was a possiblity of watching without uploading it.. anyways, thanks for the help guys..

That's pretty cool man. I'll have to give that a shot.
