Video Streaming

hey... i have a 512/384 k dsl connection and i want to stream a personal video to my relatives who have a 4 mbps / 384 k cable connection.. i wanna know

1) will it buffer too much?? Its a 700-800 mb .mpg file
2) what free software can i use to stream it?

well you can upload at 384kbps max, so I would stream at 192-256kbps just to account for overhead, and even that may be too much. Just download windows media encoder 9 from microsoft, encode it at one of those low bitrates, and serve it from you computer at port 8080. Then have them go to mms://yourip:8080 to view it. Make sure you forward port 8080 on your router.

hmm i have a windows 98SE so i tried using encoder 9 but it doesnt work on 98.. btw, i made a mistake.. i have a 512/128 conn not 512/384.. what do u think a decent upload speed would be??? 64??? also if im trying to play a video, will there be any lag in the video and will it be watchable?

let them download the video overnight and be done with it. no streaming.

or burn on cdr/dvdr and mail it since your upload is tiny.

you should be able to stream on 56kpbs just fine, but who likes to watch movies in a tiny frame? do what wfay suggested.

ye was just trying to see if there was a possiblity of watching without uploading it.. anyways, thanks for the help guys..

That's pretty cool man. I'll have to give that a shot.
