Video restart problems

I have a GeForce II GTS with an Abit KT7 motherboard. All current drivers loaded for the video card and motherboard. In the morning when I get to work I have to turn my PC on before I turn the monitor on or else the video won't initialize. If I turn the monitor on first the light stays yellow and I get a long beep from the moboard while the system will want to boot into safe mode. Any idea what can cause this? I'd appreciate some help. Thanks.
