They say that's not sure... but surely you're right... danm it 🙁

LOLThe Inquirer (not exactly 100%) "suspects" it won't work so we're all sure it won't.

Oh well. We'll know tomorrow. I hope it does work for all who think this is important.

I agree. Who knows. Wait and see.

i will say it again, something is going on with the 71.20's IMO. My balanced CPU utilization on a dual Opteron actually went up and the number of dropped frames decreased radically! Perhaps Larry was right that they found a workaround for our cards? I find it damned peculiar that I should go from dropping hundreds of frames to dropping just 20!. Like I said before, something is going on with these new drivers and MP10, if my results are any indication.

I'd sure like to find out if I'm the only 1 on the f'in planet with these results 🙂 I can't test my A64 because I run 2kpro on it now. Otherwise I'd underclock to 1.8ghz and test it with MP10 and older dets, then with the new dets and see if the radical difference in dropped frames was present and if so only with the MP10+new dets config. I can't understand how I could go from losing so many frames to so few just by changing the dets and see approx. 5-10% more CPU usage? 😕

I'll be testing this on a AXP 1700+/6800NU rig Punisher. If that can play the video, anything can.

if you could compare older dets to the new ones that would be great Rollo. A XP1700+ is going to drop frames like crazy i.e slideshow, but if you can drop significantly less with MP10 and the 71.20's that would point to something happening. I can't imagine my situation is SMP specific so I don't even want to venture more than a very weak guess about that.

Just noticed they are releasing the 71.03's according to inq, Hmmmm....I'm going to STFU now.

It won't drop any frames Punisher- the drivers will offload to my 6800. 😉

LOL, I tested "SIL" 1080p on my 8500le + Duron900 rig yesterday to test some drivers...not pretty🙂

So in other words, it's fixed?

[to be sung to the theme from Annie]

Tomorrow! Tomorrow! I'll fix ya tomorrow! Tomorrow, you're always a day awwwaaaaayyy!"

GeForce 6800 = Savage 2000

I prefer Nvidia chipsets to ATI. But even on this I think they are full of it. I'll believe it when I see it fixed for the NV40 chips.

As a person who (of course) owned a Savage 2000, I can tell you the only similarity between that chip and this one is they both had something that would supposedly be activated by drivers.

Man was the 2000 bad. 🙁

<fondly remembers my desktop missing areas, just empty black squares>

It was pretty cool to have a S3 chip on my video card again that could generate decent (for the time) fps.

I did NOT say that, I may well be unpleasantly surprised tomorrow as well. I've only seen documentation of the fix that led me to believe there will be some hardware acceleration.

Unfortunately I haven't received any actual software, so I have no idea what tomorrow will bring.

I hope it gives TOTAL hardware acceleration. 😛

For some reason or another, i thought u said that "It doesn't drop any frames Punisher- the drivers offload to my 6800"

Sorry for that bit of confusion there...

I think we all hope for that, but the likelihood is pretty small, don't you think? If their second gen PVP part, the 6600 series offers partial offload, I think it's unlikely their first gen part will offer full after offering "none".

It would seem more likely to me that we'll get some percentage of offload, which would fulfill their advertising claim of hardware acceleration for WMV. (however it was worded)

Then we'll likely have another 1000 post thread arguing whether it's good enough. The people with good motherboards will say "Hurray! My cpu usage dropped from 75% to 50%!" and the people with last year's cpus will say "Damn them! 100% to 75% is not acceptable!" and "I bought this card to play those 13 movies off MSs site on my AXP 2800! I want my 13 movies! There will be more movies in a year or two! My 2800+ should last me ten years! Why can't that damn nVidia put out a card that lets me play all games and watch all video formats forever?!?!?! They owe me big! I shouldn't have to buy a new cpu every 2 years! I'm still paying off the loan from my mom for the 2800+! <sniff> <sob> Damn nVidias!"

LOL (at my post, not yours Scott Fern)
