Video playback lag in certain parts of files

When I play back videos, sometimes the picture freezes entirely for about 6 seconds while the audio continues to play, then the video "skips" back into sync. I played the same video on my friend's slower, older PC and it didn't do this at all. What the hell? Is it media player classic or post processing that's doing this? How do I disable post processing in media player classic?
