Video playback is crappy when playing from external HD

I bought a western digital 1TB external hard drive to keep all my movies/music on. Its is the one with the power adapter, not the new one that doesnt require it.

Whenever im watching a movie or show on it though it sometimes skips. Its like its not delivering the data fast enough.

This doesnt really make sense to me though because if it can copy a 30 min show to or from my external in under a minute how can it not keep up with playing it over that 30 min time period.

Does this happen to anyone else?

I use my WD 1TB and 1.5TB drives for video storage and have flawless playback over USB2.0 even with HD videos.
Must be the drive, controller, or USB controller.

Download DPC Latency Check to see if you have a bus hogging issue.

Are you using USB, firewire 400 or eSata?

USB 2.0. I wanted to get a esata external but none of them looked that great

tried this, it never went out of the green. Could my problem be VLC related?
