Too bad he appears to be practicing a martial art where strength and size still matter. He could probably kick some butt when he gets older though.

You guys complaining about the yelling should realize that at most of these form competitions, intensity is a factor in the judging.

With the style I used to practice, the moves could be performed with a lot of power, which increases the intensity of your form. However, in a form involving a lot of fast, flashing moves (like the one this kid did), it's hard to convey intensity without resorting to yelling like that. Yelling is ALWAYS good from the judges' point of view, but I always felt that intensity in the moves rather than intensity in the voice was the way to go.

Of course *I* was never on ESPN...but believe me when I say it's pretty impressive when your uniform snaps with your punches and kicks, even if you aren't screaming like a banshee :)

Being an audience member that close to the stage I'd be afraid if the kid slipped and shiskabobbed somebody.

Impressive, and I understand why he yells, but I still think the yelling doesn't necessarily determine intensity.

roger that

I'd run away from him even if he didn't have a weapon. He looks freaking mad during the entire demostration.

Martial arts are more than wielding a weapon. All that angry look is NOT a part of any martial art.

That kid is nothing. Have you guys seen the buddhist monks that bend spears with their throats?

well, when you fight someone, you want to intimidate your opponent by yelling and showing an incredibly angry face.

during a sparring PRACTICE when i was in tae kwon do, i saw these two guys just practicing. One guy's sparring partner accidently whacked him in the eye. He got super pissed and yelled very very loudly and attacked w/ an angry face. His partner backed off immediately and boy did that guy looks friggin scary. He yelled, came full force and nailed his partner w/ a back kick to the chin.

By this time, the pissed off guy had already intimidated his partner to push him to the wall. The back kick landed on his partner's chin and the back of his head hit the wall... BAM...

see, so yelling is to intimidate your opponent and catch him offguard for a sec, enough to attack.

The kid is incredibly fast, and he would kick both Je Li & Bruce Lee ass at the same time. However this guy might be able to take them all out at the same time.

I like it, when someone is good at what they do. No matter what it is. And this kid is good, period.

Remove his oversized toothpick and I could show the little bastard what a good ol' fashion nut kickin would feel like. Might slow him down a bit till I throw him in the back of my creepy neighbor larry's van with the spray painted windows.

Um, his balls havent even dropped yet so chances are it wouldnt hurt as much, but you wouldnt even get in close enough to do it anyway
