This is an F16 doing CAS during the recent fighting in Fallujah. As you know we have been bombing insurgent "safe houses" with some success recently. This F16 was on such a mission, to hit a house with an LGB, when 30+ insurgents left the building en masse to hurry to a nearby engagement with US Marines which had been going on for hours. The pilot communicates with a FAC, and changes the flight path of the bomb while it is in the air. You can clearly see the "L" flashing in the MFD, and "TGP" is selected. The bomb itself is a 500 pounder, as Mk84s would be overkill in an urban setting where the ROE calls for minimal "collateral damage".

Were the target really "insurgents"? I find it hard to believe that people with military training would run so close together.
Why the assumption they had any military training?Originally posted by: GrGr

That is believeable to me.. honestly.
and GrGr - many of those insurgents are normal people who ae willing to take up arms against th US.. not too well organized...

If you'll notice in the description I provided, and when you listen to the video itself, the pilot was speaking to a FAC (Forward Air Controller). This guy was either on the ground or elsewhere in the air with a better look, had most likely been observing insurgents entering and leaving, and knew what was going on.Originally posted by: arsbanned

Of course they were! This tasteslikechicken fellow and his "military expert" friend say so, it must be true!

Well then how could the pilot see if the "individuals" were civilans or "insurgents". Or are all civilians in Fallujah "insurgents" simply because they are in Fallujah? Maybe these individuals were in fact civilians fleeing the fighting.

If you want to adhere to the belief that US military pilots and their support crew are indiscriminately killing civilians nilly-willy just to get their jollies, help yourself.
Consider this though. Do you really think the military is going to release footage of their misses or failures? C'mon. Get real.

I don't think it was a bunch of kids and I do think it was insurgents. They heard the jets so they ran out of the building.
