I once dated a girl who would kill Beagles and Maquak (?spelling? small monkey) for medical anthropology work.

I don 't know how she did it but I broke up with her because she was too clinical in everything else she did.

Weird seeing that on that site...they are a bunch of film students that usually put out really funny sketches.....

Personally I found it pretty funny when they actually did bring the adorable puppy around...

I'd do it for $100000 probably, only becdause it's so distasteful. To all of you saying that it's wrong, what did you eat today? I'm guessing it wasn't just veggies.

So long as I won't get in trouble for it, $1 should suffice. Dogs are nothing but rabies-spreading sidewalk-shitting-on machines.

Any amount would do as long as I don't get in trouble. There are a bunch of animals people kill everyday and mostly everyone don't care, I don't know why dogs and cats are different.

What a bullsh!t video.
No one would really answer that objectively in front of a camera.
Have $1000 out in front of them, without the camera, and I'd bet just about anyone would do it.

Good point.

Hence them bringing the puppy in the end and calling people out on the price they said theyd do it. The big giant check is priceless.

The question and answers are meaningless.. You could perform a meaningful experiement with this, but as presented the data is worthless.

People very often have no idea what they are capable of given the right set of circumstances and stimuli.

Nothing.

But only if it would die without my intervention, and if my killing it was more humane. See starvation, disease, horribly mauled, etc.

This is only in cold blood.

For $2 I'll beat you with a pool cue until you have detached retena's. I would never hurt a puppy.

my neighbor used to lure in stray cats with hotdogs then snatch them up, snap their neck, and chuck them into the woods onto the railroad track...he hated them with a passion (for good reasons, IMO)
anywho...i would do it but it depends on the dog...if it were doomed to death anyway...no prob...if not...easier said than done...i would prolly settle for an amount that could make up for the loss of life (such as a decent contribution to local animal shelter, etc)
oh...if it was a dachshund...it would take 100x more $$ but i know would settle somewhere...the ends justify the means....kill one dog...save many others...sad but true

I think it would really depend more on my context than on the amount of money involved. I'd feel bad killing the puppy just for cash; but there are some instances where money can actually buy things worth far more than the puppy.

If, for example, I just wanted to upgrade from a 30' tube to a 50' plasma, I wouldn't be able to do it and I'd feel like a real bastard if I did. Dogs, with some exceptions, are just really great animals. They are cute, exuberant, loyal, good company, and they just genuinely think that you are wonderful. Puppies are all that, plus their air of innocent eagerness. You'd have to be a cold motherfvcker to kill one of those for a new TV.

On the other hand, consider this case. Like a fair few of us here on the forums, I'm in the midcollege/early graduate stage of life. My parents have a fair few years left to them; but they aren't getting any younger and some very serious diseases are possible. Moreover, mine are getting divorced, so they will no longer both be covered by our health insurance. Imagine if my mom got cancer, say. I've not had luck pulling up precise numbers, but let's say that you could get a round of surgery and/or chemo for $25,000. I can't afford that. Would I kill a puppy for that kind of money? When that is what the money means, no question.

And for the slightly older set among us. One of the most common causes of marital breakup is financial stress. Imagine that it has been a bad year. Unexpected expenses, or cut to hours/wages, or whatever. Bills are starting to collect, you and your spouse are starting to get a little nervous. Nervous people are hard to live with. Things around the house are really starting to get unpleasant. Also, Christmas is coming. The kids will probably want something. Would you kill a puppy for enough money to pay off the bills, get the kids a little something, and take enough time off work to go take a little vacation, get away from things long enough to remember why you love each other, work things out? It sounds like a pretty good deal to me.

That's the thing with money. When you think of it as just stuff, trinkets, it would take a lot of it to match up to a puppy. It isn't just that, though. Fact is, money sometimes does buy life, buy happiness, buy love. Who wouldn't kill a puppy for that?

the smartest post in this thread, hands down

Maybe they were drawing a contrast between what people say and what they'll actually do.

Lots of people supported wars in the past yet didn't want to fight, lots of people are against abortion until they get pregnant in the middle of university.

I think it's an interesting study 🙂

in all honesty if i could do it without getting caught, without getting in trouble, or without people finding out i did it (cuz coe on girls would so be turned off and not date me) i wouldn't need a lot of money at all. a few hundred bucks would do it. If it was a nice dog like a lab, rotweiler, or something i would want mroe than the dog is worth like if the dog was worth $400 i would ask for that or more
