I just installed swat 4 and ran it and I came up with this message. If you don't know swat runs dx 9.0c and I even tried a fresh install of it from windows update. I get a similar message when I run 3dmark05 but I can play games like counter-strike source and bf1942. any help? Im running an msi 6600GT and ill give you my other specs if you need them

Tried it, resulted in the same error message and when I checked the folder afterwards, the file was back.

went to the swat4 forums and some users having similar problems but no solution. that doesn't explain why my computer would fail to run 3dmark05 though. ugh this is annoying. each time it happens when I close the error message window its like my monitor goes into standby mode(light turns yellow) yet my computer is still running and I have to do a hard reboot. obviously its some sort of video problem, but I have no idea what or how to even go about fixing it. remember I said I can still play games like cs source and bf1942(which aren't dependent on dx9.0c which is why I tried that). any help is appreciated, thanks.

Ah ok I changed some code in the swat4.ini file because I felt ambitious, I changed the resolution defaults to the same resolution I run my desktop and I also changed the default refresh rate from 60herts to 70, what I run. The game actually loaded and ran through the sierra and game preview crap. I hit esc and it crashed out giving a similar but different message:

Now I'm not very good at interpreting code, especially for games but I think it had a problem loading the main game menu. This is at least a step in the right direction I think. Here is all the code for the swat4.ini file if anyone can tell what I need to do. Its very long so I'm sorry if you actually think you can help and go to the trouble of reading it.

It is likely an issue with a driver version and the build for the game.
Contact Sierra's support is my suggestion. They may have a patch.
