Just a Captain Obvious statement here:

You say you don't have to upgrade your console every 6 months. Well there is no need to upgrade the computer either. Just play your games at 800 x 600 with S-Video out to a TV then you will see that your rig will be good enough for most games for much longer.

BTW
FPS on Computer > FPS + Console

I'm not saying you don't know what you're doing... but I'm by no means an expert and have had not one problem.

I'll admit I've got some whacky and somewhat old hardware, (Abit VP6 (actually that's the board that died) w/ 2x1000MHz PIIIs, ATI AIW 128 Pro, GF440MX, SBLive Platinum 5.1), and my system's primary task is definitely NOT gaming, but having used similar systems for many years now, I have enough knowledge to get most games running, but it almost always requires some bit of extra work. Things have gotten better with 2000 and then XP (trying to run most games on an SMP box w/ dual CPUs AND NT4 was just insane!) but it's still not to the point of ease that consoles provide.

Yeah I know. I was stating the obvious part.
