Console.
It's so nice to get a new game, load it into the console and just have it work. No messing with driver updates and patches. No praying that the minimum requirements aren't overly optimistic. No worries that the first time you try to play you will spend an hour trying to figure out why it doesn't work right.
This sounds like how someone with a Dell would think. If you even somewhat follow computing it's a non-issue, as updates are a matter of course. You may as well complain about cars because you have to change the oil.

If your only argument is that it's in another room... just give upWhat if my argument was that my xbox (hypothetically; I don't actually have one) was in another room?
My mother recently bought a Compaq, not deigning to even mention wanting a computer to me. She thinks memory is storage. She frequently calls me up because she gets lost using the direcTV remote control, often changing the tv's channel instead of the box's and not knowing what she did or how to fix it, and proclaiming me a genius when I talk her through it. She also thinks she's pretty tech-savvy.

The point is, I fix computers all day long, the last thing I want to do is fix mine. Besides, it takes longer than 2 minutes to upgrade all of the drivers between downloading, uninstalling the old ones, reboot, reinstall the new ones, reboot...
Nonetheless, it doesn't matter how long it takes. When I want to play a game, I want to play a game. That doesn't mean troubleshoot why the game is too slow or the sound is chopping up or it won't start at all. That means PLAY.
I can see by your posts that you're another one of those types who thinks that PCs are the best and anyone who doesn't build their own PC is a moron, etc.
The truth is, some of us have gotten over the "thrill" of building PCs. When my last motherboard failed, I WANTED to buy a Dell, but I couldn't justify the cost when I had enough spare parts laying around to slap together yet another frankenbox.
And you know what? I hated every minute of re-building it. I don't get any enjoyment out of that anymore, and it certainly doesn't earn me any money. It's just plugging cards in slots.

You're making a huge deal out of something that's rarely necessary, and only adviseable a few times a year. Most driver upgrades are for video cards, and generally only necessary for newer generation ones. For instance, I'm using the 44.03 dets, which were released at least a year ago, for my 4600. You act as if every game requires an hour of tinkering and a new rig to get working, and that's simply not the case unless you're using a 5 year old Dell without an AGP slot (see next quote). A total of about a half hour of 'work' a year doing necessary maintenance and you consider this a foundation to base your argument on?Originally posted by: Jzero

Not at all, prebuilts certainly have their place. I brought it up in passing, and at that only because the only time you could conceivably have troubles running a new game are if you're not tech-savvy and own an old prebuilt.I can see by your posts that you're another one of those types who thinks that PCs are the best and anyone who doesn't build their own PC is a moron, etc.
I can't remember the last game I tried to play that worked completely 100% right out of the box. Admittedly, once I bought the Dreamcast and remembered why playing on a console was so fun (hassle-free), I largely got out of bothering with PC games, but both Warcraft III and Worms3D did not play right out of the box.Originally posted by: Gurck

That is the basis of my argument. You singled out one phrase in my post pertaining to drivers, but the crux of my post was that I prefer to be able to play a new game right out of the box, no troubleshooting.
