Video game consoles, a history of ownership

Here's a list of what I have owned, and favorite games for each.

Purchased for me, I was a wee child you know:

Odyssey 2 - KC munchkin
A lot of games were on par as far as fun factor goes.
2nd. worst. joysticks. ever.
Atari 2600 - Yars revenge, Kaboom, Pitfall most of the activision games rocked.
Yars did get a little redundant and the tiny missle got too fast and annoying at about 80,000
Really, almost all of the activision games rocked. Stampede, chopper command, river raid on and on.
Atari 5200
Miner 2049er. 'Nuff said
Worst. Joysticks. Ever.
Atari 7800
Mostly used my 2600 games on it since it was defunct by this point, but got food fight.
Intellivision - Boxing, bowling, auto racing
Spent more time on these three games than almost any other. Eventually found out lefties was easy way to bowl 300. Boxing? Hit reset and try to be first to select boxer number 3. Rarely number 1 as well as 6 could beat 3.
Auto racing forget how many people would be over and play that forever.
Sega master system - choplifter, volleyball
Not that impressed with this system, but choplifter was like arcade version and volleyball was fun.

I purchased:

NES - the mario games, especially 3, kickle cubicle, balloon fight
Mario, need I say more?
SNES - super punchout, stunt race FX
Didn't get too many games for this, but these two got the most use.
Genesis - PGA golf, road rash 2, NHL games, a few others (Have CD and 32x, bleech)
Road rash was a blast. Golf did get too easy and won every tournament easily. Golf was one game I played a tremendous amount alone since nobody could come close to beating me. NHL was fun with friends except if you used the easy goals.
Playstation - Driver, crash team racing
The last board on Driver was absolutely unfair, played it what feels like hundreds of times before finally beating it. For some reason, it is one of my favorite games ever. Aside from Driver and CTR, my playstation did not get much use. Wife to keep busy ya know. 😉
Dreamcast - Crazy taxi, sonic 2

I love crazy taxi 1 and 2, now finally starting to get old after many hours. Still have to finish Sonic, maybe never will since:

With the EBGAMES promotion on hot deals, I now own 4 gamecube games with no gamecube.

That's coming in the next week. I have played rogue leader, wave race and was really impressed.

All in all, I wonder how many hours of my life have been spent on these games. Worse things I can do with my time, you think?

I've owned...

NES
Genesis(Shining Force 2!)
Sega GameGear
SNES(final fantasy 3! secret of evermore! secret of mana! earthbound! woot!)
Sega 32x
PSX
XBox

all paid for by me.

Heres mine...though can't remember the games like you...

Actually had the original PONG
Atari 2600
Intellivision (I think one of the greatest game consoles of all time)
Coleco ADAM (combo computer and game console)
Nintendo
Playstation (still have it and the kids play it all the time)

Now getting ready to buy the PS2...

Thats my history...

btw..parents bought the PONG..I was like 12 or 13 at the time.

I've been through:

The Odyssey
Colecovision
NES
Sega
SNES
Playstation 1
Dreamcast
Playstation 2

I'm thinking about an XBOX later in the year depending on how well online play works for it and PS2...or if the upcoming 11 wire modchip works as advertised.

SNES
Game Boy
PSX

Yeah yeah, I wasn't a video game freak 🙂 Getting a PS2 soon as well though, just thinking about GTA3 excites me 😉

I've owned:

Colecovision
Atari 2600
Commodore 64
Super NES
Gameboy
GameGear
N64
Playstation
PS2

Many, many hours wasted.... 🙂

Playstation
Nintendo64
Dreamcast
Playstation 2
Gameboy Advance
GameCube

Still have them all, still all work.

of the aboved mentioned... the only ones that arnt hooked up are the Genesis and Playstation. The playstation because the ps2 takes care of the old games, and the genesis because I'm missing the power cables....

my roomate added the 32x/SegaCD and Sega Saturn to our collection, but all of them are missing the power cables. 🙁

I played Odyssey (Not sure w/ version) that a friend had. That got me into gaming. I'm pretty sure we played KC Munchkin.
Then some friends of my parents got a 2600 and they played that one, some whacky paddle-stick-racing game that they liked. I wanted the Odyssey, but, 'rents said no. I then asked for Intellivision, but it was too much $$$ at the time. We ended up with the 2600 (and the combat cart) plus PacMan and Space Invaders. (I don't remember how much the console cost back then, but, pack man and space invaders were over $50 each. So much for prices coming down over time!).

[edit]4-in-1 Radio Scrap Pong Thing I forgot we had one of those. Had Pong, Hockey, and 2 other variations on paddle ball. That was fun for about 3days. 😀[/edit]

Atari 2600. Fav Game on that was Pac Man. Space Invaders was addicting, but, got boring after a while. I also enjoyed (when the prices finally fell and we got some new carts: Donkey kong (even though it was nothing like the arcade) and indiana jones.

I enjoyed (but didn't own) all the other consoles that my friends had. I think ColecoVision was my favorite at the time. Smurfs was surprisingly a fun game, but, I really liked the donkey kong port the most. Intellivision had me hooked on Bump-N-Jump, and Donkey Kong Jr. I also liked Popeye and there were a few adventure games. Intellivision 2 came out and Discs of Tron was a favorite of the brat pack.

I still wanted intellivision so my dad got the bright idea to by a system called "Aquarius". It was similar to intellivision/2 but it came with a keyboard and you could do some programming on it. The Discs of Tron game it came with was quite fun but the system broke and we ended up returning it and got our money back. Good thing... we used the $$$ to buy:

Commodore 64. Not officially a game console, but, hey, wasn't that what it was mostly used for?!! Of course, 'rents were too poor to buy a 5.25" drive, so, I had a few carts and a lot of time inputting basic programs only to loose them when the power was turned off. Until I finally got a tape drive. And then C64 was being phased out and mine kept overheating so it was of little use. Fav Game was Radar Rat Race.

Then came the Luggable PC XT and we had some fun w/ that and it's amber cga display for a while until everyone else was getting color graphics and sound. But, there were some fun games there. (Lode Runner, Jumpman, Kings Quest)

Then came the NES, the FIRST system I purchased. I was hooked on SMB (the whole series). Also liked Kid Icarus. And, of course, Zelda was awesome. There were quite a few others. Later bought SNES and mostly the new versions of the same old games. One exception was F-ZERO, that game was FUN. Later got N64 but only got Zelda and Mario and I really didn't care for either of them. Never bought any other consoles but played a few of them.

[edit]I lied, I bought a GBA and have bought SMB port, will probably buy the SMB2 port and F-ZERO too, maybe a flash advanced instead... so I can develop some games 😉😛😀[/edit]

I don't think I'll be buying another console for a while, maybe when my daughter is old enough to enjoy one? Games are too much $$$ and they (generally) aren't very fun--just flashy. I don't have time to get into (what I think are) the good games (the few there are), so, it's a waste of my money.

Oh well, that's the gist of it. If you read this far I'm shocked.

Autoracing on Intellivision was the first game where you could move the cars off the track and wander around anywhere. It was cool to be able to make your own shortcuts by going cross-country 🙂 I also loved Sea Battle....a very simple strategy game where your fleet would have to take out the other player's fleet. You had different ships with different strengths....very cool 🙂

My mom bought me a C-64 back in '84, and I can thank her for putting me on the path to the job I have today. I didn't bother with consoles because my Commie could play anything (and look better), up until about '88-'89 when the NES came out. I got one of those and played it for a while, then got an IBM PS/1 in '90. Been playing on a PC since and haven't looked back (except for the cheap Dreamcast deal last year....I picked one of those up 😉 ).

I remember the snail race! My brother and I were playing around one day and the system got turned on with no games. You had to push a few buttons to get the snail game to come up though. The first time we found it was completely by accident, and we were saying WTF for an hour afterwards. I was young and couldn't comprehend a game being played without a cartridge actually in the system.

Also for people that owned the Sega Master System... do you remember buying the games that came on the tiny card? An electronic card about the sive of a credit card that plugged into the front of the system. Those were pretty sweet. Only one I remember was F-16 fighting falcon though.

I had a Odyssey, that thing kicked a$$. I remember a game called UFO, I played that thing for weeks. oh the good old days.........
