Video fast forwarding automatically

This is not an issue with the player since it happens in both realplayer and windows media.

When I am playing a video, it would sometimes randomly fast forward for about 5 seconds and then goes back to normal. If i try to drag the seek bar back to where it was before the fast forwarding and play it, it doesn't happen again. I have no idea when it started but could it be me switching to 5.1 speakers?
 
It's not fast forwarding. It's actually lagging, and then "keeping up". It makes sense it doesn't lag again because it could be cached in memory somewhere.
