Video editting & Video card

I'm pretty sure that video editting is all CPU dependent and that only games really use a video card. But a friend told me that I need a nice video card with at least 64MB of RAM, etc. Who's right?

You are. The only reason you'd need a high-end video card for 2D work is to drive a 30" apple LCD with its 2048x1536(?) super high resolution display.

probably, but even $30 cards come with 32 MB these days. The memory needed for pure 2D is 2*width*height*4 bytes for 2 buffers of 32-bit color, divide by (1024*1024) to get the size in MB.
