Hey, I need some actually decent video editing software for PC, I've tried a lot of programs most are just bad or unprofessional, made for family home movies or something, I've used Final Cut Pro at school onthe G4 macs, which is kick ass, but I've never been able to find a program that is remotly as good for PC. Could anyone help out and tell me bout some software that actually is very powerful for vid editng and effects etc..

Thanks,
Mark

If you like Final Cut pro, Premier probably won't make you a believer, although it is pretty good. You might also want to look at the SonicFoundry apps, such as Vegas Video and Video Factory.

I'm sorry you like FCP so much 'cause there is nothing on Windows that can touch it short of an 80k Avid system. You could try Avid XpressDV ($1499 IIRC). Premiere is about as good as it gets for the PC (assuming you can get past the interface). You might want to look into Vegas Video 3. I haven't used it personally, but I've heard some good things. It's not as mature or refined as "older" apps, but I've heard it's a solid program that could probably be a contender in a few more releases.

CeruleanFall, I use Premier mostly. I do have Vegas Video (came bundled with my card) but I've never really used it. The 20 minutes I've spent playing with it weren't enough to form an opinion.

I will tell you this, a friend of mine works for a law firm and it's his job to capture video of depositions, mpeg them, and put them on cd. The law firm bought him a $4000 Mac (with a Cinema Display) and Final Cut Pro. He hated it so much that he bought a $60 capture card and $99 Video Factory and uses them to do all the work on his PC. He doesn't do anything beyond capturing and converting, so they're perfectly happy with the results.

I don't have anything against Macs, and FCP is pretty sweet, but it was way overkill for what he wanted to do. You might find that Video Factory does everything you'll want to do, and does it with way more stability than Pinnacle Studio (ugh).

I found something that was kind of a addon thingy, Cool3d that came with my tv tuner, it allows you to create your own effects for Ulead Vid Studio, and works pretty damn well at that too... i still like final cut pro for vid editing, such simple things they dont put in ulead videostudio 6, such as being able to cut a peace of video in 2! I can't believe no one thinks of things like that at some of these companies. Adobe Premier is probabily the most functional and sensible one i've found so far, but the interface is kinda ass ugly, but oh well, I'll get this figured out, thanks for all your help!

Too bad Adobe's software is usually very expensive. But who pays for software anyway? Hehe.
