Video Editing? Splicing clips together, text, etc..

Can someone suggest some user friendly video editing / producing software for windows? What are all the youtube kids using these days to add text, splice clips together, and other random features -- I'm sure everyone's seen this >> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S5jyTc6rnbI --- I want to ATTEMPT to make something like this at some point (not a I'm **** parody, but something at some point), so i'm curious what software is available to aid me in this.

All the advice is ok. But this is better: Windows Movie Maker. You already have it, it comes with winxp, and it works wonderfully, especially for noobs. Not to mention what you linked to is super easy to do with it. Otherwise I would suggest Vegas 6, but that's so complex compared to MovieMaker.
 
Thanks for the suggestions guys. I forgot I posted this a few days ago and just got around to checking the replies. I will take a look into the suggested apps.
