I need newer video editing software that works in Vista, my old one won't and I am tired of dual booting this machine.

I am doing a bit of research, but would like some input as well,...

What is your suggestion and why?

You'll get responses of higher quality and relevance if you're more specific about your needs and budget.

Well most of this will be for home movies of kids,... family get togethers, etc.
I don't need professional software, but would like something that gives me flexibility and control, which all will, to do extra stuff like adding music, some effects, etc

I want to go no higher than $150 really as this is not for professional use.
I had previously and still been using cyberlinks powerdirector 5, which is not compatible with vista...

I was looking a little so far along the lines of the more known,... adobe premiere 7 elements, pinnacle 12, powerdirector 7.

I don't have a blue ray burner (might get one), nor have a HD camcorder (will get one in near future), so I want a version that can do editing in HD quality, and blue ray burning capabilities might be a nice feature, but not as important.

Read this regarding one of the more common consumer HD cam formats, specifically this part for software that supports the format.

Much as I hate Sony, I have Vegas Movie Studio Platinum and it does an alright job. It's not thrilling, but it's not bad either. Works fine in Vista.

That said, support within Premiere Pro/elements is now available, so I'll likely switch. I used Pro a few years back and generally liked it.
