I needa make a short film for one of my classes but im at home right now and I don't have a MAC
so i can't use final cut like most people.

any good windows video editing programs out there?

Pinnacle studio 9, and patch it to version 9.3.5 on there website.

Nothing better fro the novice. Hell, even my mom got it to work and has done some really nice stuff with it

If you want basic and simple, honestech makes some decent programs, Video Edit Magic is pretty decent as well. The big names like Ulead. Pinnacle and Sonic have some good higher end programs.

It is infinity more stable. Pinnacle 8 had potential but it crashed so much. Pinacle 9 with the patch is excellent.

windows movie maker 2.1 is free with XP and does a decent job of basic editting. surprisingly competent.

I stopped video editing, but back in the day (about 3 years ago) Pinnacle had teh best products bar none for cheap soho use. However, their products were buggy as hell.

premiere is a good prog for most things (its very final cut proish)
vegas video is decent and has some good default special effects
ulead promedia w/e its called its pretty good but more difficult to use.

virtualdub is prolly the worst thing to use if you want to edit something seriously, as for compressing it or w/e. yeah, vd is best.
