Case in point :
XP 2100+
ATI 8500DV
1GB ram
Onboard audio by Shuttle

Problem : Playback of CD audio & Hi-Fi VCR audio is fine.... RECORDING bad hiss in all tests !!

From CD.... background hiss.... from VCR, same problem.

I wonder if it's just the onboard audio.....

Anyone else try this ???

Thx... Mark

Perhaps you have the recording line level too high (volume control>record properties), or maybe you need to change the default record volume, it is set too high for some configurations, the pre-set Record Volume is stored in the registry. To change it, use regedit to locate the following key:[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ATI Technologies\Multimedia\Features\TV\Sound] There you can change the preset Record Volume (mine is set to 32f hex (815) for reference). That has been a problem for some onboard sound chips. Otherwise...dunno,

Good luck!
