Video Editing 101

I'm looking for some direction into the basics of video editing. If anyone knows a good guide, FAQ or web site to get me started please pass it my way. I've got approx 30 or 40 HI-8mm video tapes that I would like to edit and put onto DVD. I'm clueless on what hardware & software is needed and exactly how much of an undertaking this would be (even with all the right equipment)🙂

Tough question. I do edit videos. I am still learning, so I will pass on some of my limited experience. If you plan to place HI 8 on DVD you need to have away to convert the video to Digital Files. There are capture devices avaliable. Depends on your budget and desire. You need a fast CPU, Fast and large hard drives. Also you would need a DVD Burner, and Editing software.
I could get into specifics but please tell me how much time and money do you wish to spend.
You could check out justedit.com. This is the Canopus web site. In my opinion the best capture cards for DV editing.
Keep me posted.
I do like DV editing. It is worth the effort.
Tony🙂

Thanks...

My budget would be approx $1200 and I don't know if this will even come close to doing the deal. Thought about comparing this cost vs. paying someone else with the equipment to do it - this seems very subjective in regards to the video content however.
