Video Cooling

Anyone know of a good air cooled kit that'll bring my temps much cooler? The stock hsf setup is keeping my temps too high for my likings, and I have noticed gpu slowdowns because of it every so often.

I believe so far the only one that might work for you would be the new Zalman cooler. Hmm, maybe Arctic Cooling made a VGA Silencer for the X800s? I forget, but surely they did since they made one for the 6800 cards.

You could just try putting either some Arctic Silver 5 or Arctic Ceramique, that might be sufficient to cool things down.

Your temps should be just fine. The stock cooler is always adequate, even for a moderate overclock.

If you want it a little quieter or a little better cooling look at the VGA Silencers; they are supposed to be excelent; however, this does Void your warranty.

Generally manf use pretty high quality T.I.M on their HS/F's so AS5 or Ceramique probably wont do anything.

Not necessarily disagreeing with you, but tell that to GeForce 6800 owners. I know a lot of times putting on AS5 on in place of the stock TIM helped cool things down pretty good (especially since the RAM only has thermal gauze looking stuff on them and no real TIM).

And yes, remember that even putting ASC or AS5 on will void your warranty.

Maybe the HSF didn't get seated right on the card?

Are you overclocking or anything?

To answer some of your questions, yes I tried to overclock it slightly just to get the frames up a bit, but it wasn't alot of overclocking. I think I went about 10-15 mhz on gpu and ram. But even at stock, my temps get (according to ATITool) about 55-60 for GPU, and the 2nd temp that it monitors (RAM?) gets to about 62-65, which the 2nd number is what's concerning me. When it gets that high, 3d mark crashes, and that's at stock settings. So I need to get the temps down. Should I just call for a replacement? Or should I just void the warranty and get something better to cool it down? Opinions please 🙂 Thanks

well you voided your warranty by oc'n it to begin with, and even if you hadn't as long as it works fine at stock speeds you shouldn't call for a replacement.

You might as well invest in some better cooling because unless you're going to lie to asus you are stuck with that card now. Ati silencer should drop your temps and such as long as you install it properly

Yep, unfortunately you've already voided the warranty by overclocking (even though it was minor). You could lie to them, or even tell them and see what they said (if they have a program that auto overclocks then they might be a little lenient but probably not). The best advice would be to just get an ATi Silencer and see if it resolves the issues you've been having.

The last part is what I would do. Get some AS5 or ASC and read all the guides you can find about installing it for your card (there might be a certain thing you can do to get the most out of installing it).

You could lie to them
I definitely would not advise someone to lie. What kind of morals are you following here!!?!

Since you have already voided your warranty you might as well get another cooler. The VGA silenceer is very nice.

ok gamingphreek, if your not going to help people out around here stop waisting the time and space.
He didn't advise him to lie he just presented it as an option.

I have a ati silencer on my x800pro and it dropped my idle temps by about 5C and my load temps by almost 15C. It's definatly worth the money. I was able to up my OC from 520/520 to now where I can bench it at 540/570 but I tend to keep it aroun 530/560 just to make sure no harm comes to it.

I know that text doesn't exactly show emotion, I meant that more like:

You could lie to them. I wasn't suggesting he do it, I was more pointing out that if he tried to send it in that he would be lying (which believe it or not a lot of people actually don't know that OCing a card automatically voids the warranty).

I am helping him out. I was one of the first people to post to try to help him out. Presenting it as an option is essentially advising it. Also Derwen what did my post have anything to do with you. It was directed entirely at the OP and Darkswordsman.

Thankyou for clarifying it darkswordsman. I didn't mean anything by it but the way you worded it earlier made it seem like you were endorsing it.
