Hello all,

I recently purchased a movie cd (not a dvd, and not divx) and tried to play it on my PC. I have been having problems though as when I open it with my media player it says I am missing a codec and it doesn;t say which codec I need. If anyone has a movie CD or bought one and had to download a codec I could use a little input. Please, anyone who knows, let me know what the codec is I need to play these types of discs.

Thanks in advance,

What version of media player are you using? I've gotten VCDs to work with Windows Media Player ver 6.0 and up. You may need to upgrade.

I have the version of media player that comes with XP and upgraded with the updates on Microsoft's page.

Whenever I open the VCD it says that is connecting to a server and requesting a codec but there is always an erro in downloading it so it never works. Any thoughts???

It's most likely one of those shady pseudo-illegal codecs that aren't supported by MS. You'll have to do some digging to find them, though they are out there.
