maybe i posted my previous thread in the wrong forum now that i think about it.. oops! i put it in the overclocking forum... at any rate, maybe someone here will respond?
:)

here is my original post:

hi all!

my fan on my creative labs annihilator 2 is going out... barely spins up and is very loud.. heehee! i am overclocking it too, so i need to replace it w/ a good one...

at any rate, i remember seeing an article (i thought at anandtech but couldn't find it in any searches) on the little blue orb (thermaltake's solution) and on another fan that was even better for chipsets/video cards.

there was a site that rated and sold like 3 different solutions, but i cannot remember it.. chipsetcooler or something like that....

can someone help me out w/ other solutions, or is the blue orb the best anyways, or ???

thanks!

Try Tennmax for nice replacement heatsink/fans. Make sure you get the correct pin configuration, and you're golden.

tweakr: thanks! that was the site i was thinking about but couldn't remember!

now the question is are those better than the blue orbs? any opinions or articles that compare them?

thanks again!

I have a pair of tennmax on my g400 and cl tnt2.. the Blue orb may be better, since it's bigger and may have a larger fan. Tennmax doesn't block the slot where blue orb does.. both worked better than retail.

I have the Tennmax coolers on my creative annihilator 2. If you wait a little bit, they are coming out with a Lasagna2. A drop wider than the original, but still short enough so as to not block a pci slot. The Blorb cools better than the Tennmax, but it is also a lot bigger.

Well, personally I would go for the Tennmax - it's a neat wee unit, and even if it's cooling performance is not the highest around, the Geforce2 doesn't need massive amounts of cooling - it's the memory speed that counts most, so even if the core's pumped up, there may not be a huge performance improvement if the memory's still holding the card back.

As mentioned above, the Tennmax also doesn't block any slots, and AFAIK, there have been no problems mounting the Lasagna with push-pins, whereas some people have reported that the Blorb needs some fiddling to get it to fit on some boards.

Just my thoughts

Diceman: nice review! now, where exactly do i get a creative annihilator @ from? i only have the creative annihilator 2... is the @ the next chipset from nvidia? did you get ahold of what is coming out next spring?

JUST KIDDIN!!! heehee!

seriously though, nice review.

thank you all for your help! after reading about all of them, i think i'm going to go w/ the Borb. the others are smaller or more effecient depending on the model, but i reallly like the looks of the Borb and it performs well too. i'm fortuante enough to have the right chipset/card where the Borb's pins will fit correctly unmodifited too! it is also very quiet... don't want to hear those fans when i'm fraggin! i want to hear the others blowing up and body parts flyin!
:)

thanks again guys!
