Video Chatting - Which program to use?

My wife is going away for a few days and is taking her laptop. I have a webcam that she can take so we can use some sort of chat program that allows a video feed. It would just be so my daughter can see her mom on the screen.

Problem is I haven't used an IM program in years and don't know if they can all do that these or if there's something that's better than the other to use.

Any recommendations?

Well, I tried using AIM 6.1 and got it to work but it disconnected right away because only one of the PCs has a camera. SO I guess I need to specify that only one end will have a camera and the other end won't. Maybe it'd be easier to just setup a live web feed and talk on the phone which is how we'll be communicating anyway.
 
i've used Skype & MSN Messenger with a friend in North Carolina.

MSN Messenger seems to work better. it also seems to have a conflict
with Pinnacle 8. when i installed Messenger on an Asus P5GD with
a 3.6 P4 (old fashioned space heater vintage 2005), Pinnacle could
no longer "find" the webcam. so that computer is my "talk to friends"
computer.

this is using a Logitech QuickCam 4000. since replaced by the
QC 5000.
 
Well, I got a second Webcam for $10 at BB and tried it with AIM. It connected fine for about 30 seconds and then would just disconnect every time. No idea why. So downloaded MSN Messenger and tried that and it seems to work fine. So, we'll give that a try and hope for the best.
