video causing OS freezes

I've recently had a problem with my computer freezing up a lot. It seems to happen mostly when I'm playing video on the computer -- I can never play more than 5 minutes of video w/o my comp freezing up. I installed a fresh copy of WinXP and it still does the same thing. I've swapped out my RAM and flashed my BIOS and it still happens. Any more suggestions before I try the expensive route of a motherboard/CPU swap?

Do you have the very latest drivers? Also, it might be a heat problem. Is the fan on the card spinning? Are all your case fans spinning? If you run with the cover off, does it still happen?

do you have a TV card? these often cause conflicts and can screw up computers. It may also be the codec that you're using to display the movie, try dowloading a fresh/newer copy of the codec you need to play the movie.

I formatted and have all the latest drivers, cleaned out my registry and everything in the OS is clean. The problem still persists. All my fans are running and I normally keep my case open. Maybe I'll try borrowing another power supply to try that.
