Video Cards

I assume you mean PIII 500MHz. 🙂 A video card recommendation depends on your usage characteristics. Are you a gamer? What's your budget?

In any case, I think a GeForce2 MX series card will fit those system specs nicely or the "do-everything" All-in-Wonder Radeon (My friend is running one in his PIII 500) if you want to squeeze some more use out of the system before getting a new one.

I was looking at the EXCALIBER AGP 64MB-SDRAM NVIDIA GEFORCE2 MX400 VGA CARD. what do you think? i'm not much of a gamer, however, i like power!

What games do you play since youre not much of a gamer?

i'm not much of a gamer at all. i'm just looking for a reliable card with power. like i said, i like the card that i mentioned above. it looks good and i can get it for $60.

If you don't really game at all, then you will want a card with good 2D. ATI is known for good 3D. If I were you, I would get a Radeon 7000 of whichever variety you would like. You wont see any performance difference between any of the modern graphics cards if you are not gaming. You will, however, see a difference in 2D and DVD performance. ATI will beat a GeForce MX in both of those categories.

Thank you for the replies. The card is for a new Dell PIII 500MHz, that I am buying off someone with a 17" monitor for $300. Not bad! I wanted to replace some of the components with modern ones. OK, so I should look into the Radeon 7000? I will have to check out the specs on that card.

Thanks again.

<< How is the ATI Radeon 64MB DDR VIVO AGP card? >>

MUCH better than the 7000(ve) unless you need dual head. Still a good gaming card, has VIVO for video in/out (add a vcr to the video-input and use the VCR for a tuner) has the better 360MHz RAMDAC for nice 2D. I retired mine for my current AIW 7500, but still a very good/capable card.
