I am looking into getting a 9800Pro or XT. Is the XT's greater performance worth the extra money?

Thanks.

i have an XT. While the performance is the best, its not worth it over the reg. 9800 (same goes for the 5900 over the 5950). If i were u, and am i assuming u are on a budget, i would find a cheap 9800 pro 128 meg somewhere. I hear u can get them very cheaply at $230 or less.

that is a damn fine price for a gpu that great. I would jump on it. DOn't waste your money on the XT, Remember: The nv40 and R420 are just around the corner. With them bring much lower prices. Soo......if u want a card now, get the above and know that u are getting a great deal. However, if u are able to wait about 5-6 weeks or so, you could get the same board for a much lower price, or you can put down $300-400 or so for a Much Much MUCH better gpu.

Your choice, but either way you win.

how much lower? if it's only a few bucks i'm not worried about it.

Also, I am upgrading from a 9700 Pro... Is this a viable upgrade or no?

read this:

9700pro vs 9800pro

if i had a 9700pro i wouldn't upgrade to the 9800. i would wait for the newer cards to come out personally. i really don't think you'd see a 200 dollar improvement over what you're getting now with the 9700. :)

I saw that review, but they underclocked the 9800pro to 9700pro speeds...

I agree... but I planned on selling the 9700pro afterwards, so it would be more like <50
