Video Cards and the Abit TH7II

I read the following in their online manual...

"The 850 Chipset supports the newer AGP 4X format. Because the slot is restricted to 1.5v only, newer devices are compatible"

It is not worded well, so I really don't know what it means. Can anyone shed some light on this? Will my Voodoo5 run on it? I am holding out for a GeForce4 ti4200 or better when the price drops. I was actually putting a new HD in front of video since I figured a P4 with the V5 would be good enough to last me abother 6 months or more.

Did a google search and found this right here on anandtech...

"The i850 only supports AGP cards with 1.5V signaling, which is what you?ll find on the vast majority of AGP 4X cards. However, you?ll have to watch out for AGP 2X cards, most of which only support 3.3V signaling. Probably the most recent card that would not work on an i850 is the 3dfx Voodoo5 5500"

I am screwed if I want to get the i850 board right?

Unless you get another video card yes, if you were to put the voodoo in you could fry it along with the rest of them system from what I hear.

Damn.. what a shame. I can't let this stuff sit here until late April Early may when the 4200 cards start coming out... the only thing I am lacking is the CPU (on order from newegg).

It looks like I will either be buying the GeForce 3 ti200 from gainward or the Radeon 8500

Sure am glad I decided to read the pdf version of the manual. I might have missed that in the shuffle of putting the new computer together. I was really hoping to get the 8MB Cache Hard Drive from WD to replace this old 20, but I guess that will have to wait.

Anyone want to buy a Voodoo5?.. LOL
