video cardless...???

Is there a configuration or OS that will let me set up a machine and then turn it off and reboot without a video card and have the computer still run? I have a bunch of old parts I could put together in a crack rack, but I would have to aquire a bunch of video cards and this would save me some bucks.

Thanks,

Some motherboards have BIOS options that allow it to boot without any video that might be a good way to go...

CYPM too

I have 3 really cheap cards, but they are my 2nd, 3rd and 4th monitor on my main computer... 🙂
Oh yeah, and I got my PM, still working on the response....I am alittle slow this late in the day...

$8 video cards here LiquidationPC. I haven't bought anything from these guys in a while, but it seems like you don't know shipping in advance, but it was reasonable (I think).

I think if you use Linux without X and a graphical interface you could log in on the system and do all the configs without a video. Not Linux user though...

That reminds me of another question I had. Does anyone know of a way to make a custom klinux image with you ini already done, so if the machine looses power and restarts it will boot back up and start cracking again? I know klinux supports loading your ini from a floppy but I was thinking you had to load klinux, then switch disks and that is alot of work if you have a few machines that have to be reconfigured everytime the power flashes. Plus, I am trying to lose the need for video...heh

yeah, I can set it to stop on no errors. hmm, guess I am going to boot up a 98 box and see if it still runs without a video card.

I tried to boot my computer that has 98 on it with out a card, but the computer refuses to boot without the video card. I set halt on no errors in the bios, but when I turn it on it goes beep-beep-beep and shut back off. I also booted the machine up and loaded windows and disabled the video card in system properties and unplugged it with the machine running, but the computer crashed. I tried it twice. For those wondering why I tried twice, on my windows 2000 box with 4 monitors, I can disable one of the cards and yank it out without shutting down the box. Hmmm, I think the only time I tried reinstalling it while the machine was running, the machine locked. Can't remember though.
