but if it's TRUE 4ns RAM, it HAS to get 500MHz, otherwise, it's just not 4ns, right? Like heedory mentioned, I think on his card, there isn't real 4ns RAM, or am I simply abroad with my thoughts?
Thanx guys >>
In theory, yes. In reality, no.
4ns RAM is rated to run at 250MHz/500MHz DDR. So in theory you should be guaranteed that it will run at least that high as an absolute minimum.
The reality of it is less kind.
Video card memory seems to be rated a little over-optimistically IMHO. Which is a large part of the reason manufacturers seldom use memory that barely meets the minimum requirements for the boards spec.
I've found that even when the RAM is 4ns or whatever, it isnt terribly unusual for it not to hit 500MHz effective memory speed.
You have a reasonably good chance at it, but you definitely don't have any sort of a guarantee at all.
Perhaps the memory isnt being fed enough voltage at default to ontain it's rated 500MHz speeds, I don't know... but I have seen MANY MANY cases in which memory wouldnt overclock to the speed it's supposedly rated at.
So while you certainly have a very decent chance at 500MHz memory clock, and quite possibly even higher.... it's not a guarantee and if you purchase the card being confident that you will get at least 500MHz at a minimum then your setting yourself up for disappointment.
