I would definately upgrade the PS, you can get a pretty beffy PS for less than $100. Rosewill makes a 500w model with 35a on the 12v for about $75 at the Egg.

6600GT>9800pro

Or wait and get a 500w Antec smartpower on sale for $50 (17a 12v1 19a 12v2)

Oh, and I would get the 6600GT and 512mb. When you can get a decent stick of 512mb for ~$60-80 why not get the better card and just get the ram after the next few paychecks

You can get a good stick of 512MB DDR400 for $40-45, not $60-80 ;)

That PSU is pretty weak, under 18A on the 12v rail is unacceptable these days. Try getting a better PSU, maybe around 400+ watts with at least 18A on the 12v.

I have a very quiet extra psu with 10A on the 12V rail. do yuo think i can sorta rig that for about a month before i can afford a new psu?

im thinking of sorta using the !)a psu to power my hdd/optical drives so that my main 14A psu can power my 6800 or 6600gt.
is there any damage ot sending current to a optical drive ro HDD befroe a pc is turned on?

The startup process would go somethingl iek this.

1. turn on external psu so my drives will recieve current
2. turn on rest of my pc with main on button so that rest of my pc starts up.

will this casue any damage to parts?
