Video card upgrade help and is AGP going to die soon?

I have a athlon 3200 barton with 1gig of ram to go with my 9800np. I'm looking to upgrade my video card to go with my new VP191B LCD.

My question is how long do you think AGP will be around? If I go out and buy a X800XL AGP how long do you think this will be good on games coming out this year and next?

Another question is a 256mb card that much better then a 128mb card? If I step down would a 6600gt 128mb be worth the upgrade over my 9800np? At the 175.00 price range it seems to be the best card out there.

I'm looking to spend 175 to 300 but would prefer the cheaper version if the upgrade would not last me through next summer at least.

I wouldnt bother getting anything lower than a 6800nu since you have a 9800.

I'd get the 6800GT.

I believe the next gen cards will be AGP, I may be wrong.

I heard a rumour saying only the lower end next generation cards will be AGP. It odesn't really make sense but it could be true. AGP will be die soon though.

they will be out in agp, but it might be more expensive (the bridge). actualy i think the r520 is supposed to be agp/pci e..maybe that was the g70...i forgot

Get a 6800nu and unlock it with rivatuner

For AGP, the 6800 and 6800gt are better options than the X800XL.

I wouldn't bother upgrading to a 6600gt.

I heard the G70 will be out in AGP form. It's probably the last generation of top end cards we'll see on AGP though. Then again, most people wouldn't keep a single motherboard through two top end video card cycles anyways.

No fear ATI is here.

MSI has already launched an X800XL with two IO's meaning it will fit AGP slot as well as PCI-E. Those IO's lie on bottom and top so the card can be fit depending on ur configuration.

The new Cross Fire is likely to cmoe with a bridge solution so ATI won't have to redesign the card from AGP to PCI-E convertion.

Atleast on the ATI side, im sure AGP won't be deing soon. Its lame for the board makers to adopt PCI-E right away even on low end $ 80 parts.

If i own an X800XT PE AGP, its damn fast. I would like to upgrade my mobo for OCing and ill be stuck with too few choices.

MSI has done it, im sure Gigabyte is the next likely brand to bring this dual solution on even higher end cards.

MSI did that to the x800 pro before but it ended up being an engineering sample, to demonstrate that it could be done, both next-gen cards will be available in agp

Yep..

nVidia and ATI have stated that both next gen, high end cards will be released in AGP.. Maybe not the exact same times, but they will be available in AGP.

What deal, the Leadtek version is even cheaper plus carries its gigantic 500 gm copper cooler. This prolink is just another stock.

the next gen cards should be agp so that 1) they can make more money and 2) most systems are agp as of now.
