Well i have a radeon x700 pro.And it's really goin down the line nowadays.Oblivion is barely playable at 1024x768 with no AA,no HDR(just bloom).
But that might be down to to my P4 531 as well.
Anyway i will be upgradin my comp in June.So along with that i was wondering which gfx card would serve the purpose best.I got $1500 total budget for the upgrade.
So i'd say around $300-$450 for the gfx card.
I was wondering if the radeon x1900 xt would be overkill.I'd prefer ati because from what i've heard they have better IQ.
Help would be appreciated.

Is there any way you could put some of your money towards a new monitor?

I would say a x1900xt would be overkill, but it would future proof your system pretty well. Honestly if you can stretch it to this, I would go for it. You dont want to be upgrading a lot, do you?

If you cant stretch the x1900xt, I would go with a x1800xt 512 MB. I just did, should be here tuesday. Cant wait.

Or if you like nvidia's side of things, I have heard of a 512MB 7900Gt, though I have no idea on those things.

There really is no such thing as overkill with a graphics card these days. I suggest a Radeon X1800XT 512MB.

Future proofing is stupid, the market moves too fast for that. If you're set on your display, as otehr have suggested buy a X1800XT or better yet voltmod a 7900GT.

X1800XT (get one fast, because they're going fast), 7900GT, or if you really want to save some money, you can lose some texture quality and go with a 7600GT.

got a $200 acer 8ms dvi 19in lcd and an x1800xt 512 and it seems to be a very good fit (2.4ghz a64 and 1gb mem)... at 1280 x1024 u get good framerates with all the goodies turned on...

but it seems that these days u probably ought to go for the best, newest vid u can afford, even to the exclusion of other parts (get 1gb mem and spend the extra on vid, etc...)... a little less cpu won't be noticed as much as a little more video card...

well i heard that ati stopped production of the x1800 xt.So will it be available.I'll be going to Singapore by the end of May(around 27th)and i plan to get my stuff from there. So will the x1800 xt be available as such? And prices are droping like there's no tomorrow.
And is the performance difference that much, like in oblivion,bf2,doom3(all of which i can't really play with iQ on 1024x768 on my current card)

I would think the X1800XT will still be in stock at most places by mid June. Later than that, I do not know.

if you can afford a x1900xt go for it. then nothing will be out of your range. you'll be enabling HDR+AA 6xAA HQ-AF anyother goddies you want and still getting more than 60 fps in every single game taday and for the next half of the year (at the rs you intend).

man i hopw i can quickly save up enough for a x1900xt my self. get it.

other than that a 1500 budget should include a x2 3800+ atleast.

If you want to play every game maxxed out at 50+fps 1280x1024 you need a 7900GTX. Even 7800GT SLI can't keep COD2 happy @ 1280x1024 4xAA 8xAF without drops into the 40s.

1800xt 256mb, 625/1500 sapphire retail $240 right now, oblivion at 1280 smooth sailing HDR. I love mine...enemy territory is spectacular with every options enabled, 6xfsaa, adaptive AA, 16x AF /high quality text, vsync always on, mipmap at best its 60 solid state fps throughout the game...not bad. I am glad it runs oblivion at 1280 smoothly.

7900gtx is much more than 300 buck. x1900xt is a little more. take your pick and 7900gtx can't play anything with HDR+AA. so you always missing that esp if you p[lay oblivion.
