Video Card Temperatures

Hi i have a evga 6800 GT PCI express video card and was wondering what normal temperature should be. I'll feel my gpu is too hot when running games. i use nvidia's utlitiy to read the temperatures.
it read "GPU CORE TEMPERATURE = 112 degrees celsius"
and "AMBIENT TEMPERATURE = 67 degrees celsius"

Is this too hot. I have the latest geforce drivers and my case is well ventaliated no problems with the ram, cpu.

That's way too hot IMO...my 6800GT is anywhere from 60°C (idle) to a little over 75°C (load)...ambient is usually around 40. What kind of airflow do you have in your case, and what is your room temperature like....?

That is hot. My AGP 6800GT at stock speeds and cooling idles around 55~57C. Under load as soon as I close a game the temp max showed about 73C. You may want to look at better cooling or at least applying some AS5 to core with the stock cooling. Maybe it is not making good contact. At least try running with your case open to help drop the ambient temp down.

Hmm, a 112 degrees Centigrade should effectively KILL your graphics card... maybe calibration error?

no overclocking and two case fans and 420 watt enermax powersupply. haven't check if the gpu fan is running. i just bought this thing about a week ago from zipzoomfly.com.

i took of the case door on one side and now the core temp is 65 degrees. going to do a few more tests like run far cry and see how high it gets.

65°C is a much more reasonable idle temp. Sounds like you had really really bad (nonexistent?) airflow before...

playing far cry the temp reach 73 degrees max. apparently it was the fan on the gpu that stopped spinning after a while. so i took off the card and made sure everything was secured. then i reattached it and it works fine now. hopefully it doesn't turn off anymore.

Definately TOO hot.. Both the ambient and the chip temp.
Did you accidently bump / move / dislocate the fan or heat sink on 6600 chip?
nVidia only recommends a MAX temp for their vid card chips at 90'C.
Check all the fans in case again, and also disable "smart fan" technology if you have it.
Let the fans run constant. If there is fan monitor, check your fan speeds too.
Also, check your voltage to card. For my Giga Byte, it takes 1.5v, check with your M/B, and 6600 Manuf.
You might try to use RivaTuner to monitor temps also, in case you are getting a false reading ffrom your other progr. Riva uses a real-time log to monitor the last 10 minutes or so.
Just to get a "second opinion" reading.
Last check...Make sure your vid card fan is pushing air towards the chip, not pulling away.
