Video card replacement advice

I am looking to replace a faulty video card for a computer that is a few years old. It has a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L motherboard, E8400 processor, and 2 gigs of average ram.

It used to have an MSI 8800GTS 512M OC RT video card. We took it to a guy who put in a GeForce 210 with a gig of memory on it temporarily, but it seems to be slower. Is this normal? I used to be up on all this but my health is awful and I am way out of the loop anymore.

I'm not sure I can even find an 8800GTS anymore. What we want is something that will support 1920x1080 resolution and run something like World of Warcraft smoothly. It would also make sense if it was in the same power range as the rest of the components.

What would you recommend?

Thanks!

lol, its not like this info is locked away somewhere. a few seconds on google will let you know exactly how the gt210 stacks up. here is a hint though...its really really slow.

a gts450 or 5750 should easily give you the performance you want in World of Warcraft.

Ok, but being in very poor health it is a real challenge to do all the research needed to find an appropriate card that is available 3 years after the computer was originally assembled. I need to find an appropriate card, hopefully without the process doing me in. 🙂

lol, you replied too fast. I was editing my post to give a couple of suggestions. yeah the gt210 is abysmal for modern games so almost anything out there is an upgrade from it. those cards I suggested are a little bit better than your old 8800gts 512mb.

It's getting hard to find the 5750 at a decent price (should be around $90). Here's the newer, faster 6770 for $98 after rebate (with a free game - Dirt 3): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102941. (before others mention it, the cheapest 5770 is $95 after $20 rebate, and doesn't have as good a cooler nor a free game)

If you'd like to spend less and are willing to deal with a big $30 rebate (from a company known to play rebate games), here's the GTS450, which is between the 5750 and the 6770 in performance, for $79AR/shipping: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814500187
